If they got CBS Morning Show to do a remote, and got a 2nd 60 Minutes piece, then Arum negotiated very well.

But I heard that the primetime slot was not secure, nor was it a lock for CBS yet.

My favorite bit on the CBS thing was advertising during the NCAA tournament. That tournament is the 2nd biggest sporting event in the US only behind the Super Bowl.

The networks issue is one that can actually change and have a real effect in a short amount of time. As far as commissions, bad judges, sanctioning bodies/multiple belts, that stuff isn't going anywhere.

it wont change anything. u have too many networks showing boxing and it leads to fragmentation and oversaturation. no matter how many ppl act like its possible, boxing is not returning to national television. the after that janet thing, all of the networks are to scared of the boogeyman fcc to even think about it. it aint happening, ive taken a whole course on it. what was once acceptable on tv is not any longer.

the best we can hope for out of this is if both hbo and showtime coming off in equal footing with networks like espn and msg showcasing lower rated talents. espn doesnt care about boxingt, itll be another sport for them, they wont even put half of the effort hbo puts into it.

thanks for the info, its clear hbo doesn't put the money in promoting fights like they use to. cbs and espn can spend more money if they want to and can reach alot more viewers than hbo. hopefully this means espn and other networks are gonna invest more in boxing. it would be good for the sport and the fans.

Arum is always involved in investigations, lawsuits, beefs, arguments, media wars, etc. That component is detrimental to the sport.

UFC and Strikeforce have been on terrestrial free TV in the past year. Boxing isn't banned by the FCC.

ESPN is already investing more in boxing in 2011. They've added 2 FNF cards to their schedule, and have stated they have more leeway to pay higher licensing fees than in the past.

Sounds like Arum struck a hell of a deal with CBS/Showtime. I was wondering why he was featuring Christy Martin on the card but now I know it's because he got a deal to have her on daytime talk shows which means they're trying to draw in the female audience. And their 24/7 program will be broadcast (at least one episode) will be featured on PRIMETIME, and there will be a 60 minutes follow-up.

This could be the start of something HUGE (not to mention monster #s for the PPV).

Yes, 100%. But his articles are always full of interesting insight.

Hauser is a huge hypocrite. He bashes HBO for non-competitive match-ups but then goes on to bash Alexander-Bradley. It's also full of the usual whining from boxing promoters who have conveniently forgotten that HBO has subsidized their business. They manage to somehow get a few quotes from that woman Malinaggi lol.

But it's worth reading. Here is hoping that this deal will help push promoters to actually promote the sport again and for all the hate that Arum gets he is one of the very few who can do this.

ohhhh two extra fight cards??? nice! smh...was that supposed to be a joke? lmao. espn is the biggest sports broadcaster in the nation and its boxing division consists of one fatass. ill say it again, espn does not care about boxing. they may latch on when boxing becomes more popular, but do u see a boxing ticker at the bottom of espn's screen when guys tim bradley are fighting???
