I agree. One single governing body would go a long way in helping the sport. I mean, it's bad enough here are four to five (if you count the Ring title) champions per division, but now there are even sometimes multiple champions per belt. It really has gotten out of hand.
Bob Arum: "Promoters Are Taking Back The Business From The Networks"

Which promotional company has had the highest-selling PPV's?
Which promotional company participated in the development of 24/7?
Which promotional company has led the way with multi-city tours?
Which promotional company hugely expanded the corporate endorsements for boxing?
I'll give you a hint. The answer for all four involve a transvestite Olympic gold medalist.
Well let me break it down for you since my post went over your head.
Yes GBP can put together good cards, but that is with guys who are already established stars.
Almost all of there stars were built up by someone else, it's just that throw money at them, sign them and then do events. That's cool, but until they show they can build up a fighter....then they will always be behind Top Rank. They have Canelo, Ortiz, Gomez and a few others, so they will have a golden opportunity. Let's see if they can take advantage.
Secondly, Top Rank is the only company doesn't need HBO or any network to put together events. They also don't need Vegas.
I'll just stop there but again GBP is green in a lot of areas and has a ways to go.Comment

If Bob was doing these two PPV on his own with zero network help he could say that but he is using Showtime which is not a small network.
What risk is he really taking with Showtime backing him.
He took a good deal plain and simple, what anyone would do in that situation (since they weren't bound to HBO).Comment

Which is why in the next sentence you had to backtrack ("yes, GBP can put together good ...")
You are talking about something you clearly don't understand. Which is why you type a zillion words...but never talk about MONEY.
Boxing is a business. promoters are businessmen. They are in business to make money.
All your extra words is you showing your ignorance in business.Comment

Which is why Arum admitted that the arena events were not financially successful.
Where is Pac-Mosley?
Where is Cotto-Mayorga?
Bob took an L with all the empty seats. Which is why he tucked tail and ran back to the Vegas site fee tit.
Do you even have an UNDERGRADUATE business degree? You haven't said a word about revenues. LMAO.Comment

Unless of course Arum just wants to cede HBO to GBP but is burning a bridge like that truly a wise move.Comment

And if I'm HBO, and investing my money, I'm gonna have a say into what goes on my air. Just as YOU would.
If you are chipping in on the groceries, you want a say into what is for dinner.
HBO CAN and SHOULD be criticized for reaching this point belatedly. and inconsistently. But it's a start.Comment
