top rank and imho main events are the only true promoter left in boxing. king has fallen off. everyone else in the promoting business are glorified booking agents. that's why HBO thinks it can push promoters around. -
Boxing shouldn't be in the hands of either the networks or promoters. The sport needs to be reorganized from top to bottom and run like the NFL, NBA, etc with a commissioner and one governing body, that (along with a few other remedies) would go a long way towards straightening things up.Comment

In a way I'm glad Arum did this as I felt HBO was getting too big for their own boots, I couldn't quite put my finger on why, just a lingering feeling. In all relationships, be they business or personal there will come a time where you have to remind the other party just who the Fck you are.Comment

The only real promoters left besides those at Top Rank is Oscar and Co at GBP.
GBP still has a ways to go though, as they appear to be green in a lot of areas and not on the level on Top Rank.Comment

Which fans are you talking about exactly? Cotto had the highest rated non PPV HBO boxing card last year, more than Williams-Martinez II (not to mention more than quadrupling the paid attendance)... with Yuri Foreman as his opponent. So I think it's clear the fans would rather see Cotto vs some guy than Martinez fighting anyone.
HBO blew this one big time and they should fire all the people involved in the bizarre and costly decisions they've been making lately. I think a trained chimp would be better suited to run their sports division. Losing Pacquiao will cost them tens of millions of dollars this year alone.Comment

That is quite daft.
Golden Boy has PROMOTED their fights.Comment

Which promotional company participated in the development of 24/7?
Which promotional company has led the way with multi-city tours?
Which promotional company hugely expanded the corporate endorsements for boxing?
I'll give you a hint. The answer for all four involve a transvestite Olympic gold medalist.Comment
