To create sports like MMA it would take few days for experts to sit down and modify boxing rules and standarts, no need to develop anything new.

Then they started talking about a college basketball game and compared it to two great boxers getting in the ring to see who is better. The final analogy we heard was the AFC Championship game and they said it is like a fighter taking body shots the whole fight comparing body shots to running the football and see if they can last all 12 rounds or 4 quarters. I always hear this it and notice it how so many other sports use Boxing analogies then any other sport and I feel it is used more for analogies than any other sport.
cause there's nothing more graphic than a boxing analogy.

I'd argue that boxing is the most culturally and historically significant sport.
