you do know Manny's first fight as a welter was against a Junior Middleweight right?

and you do know that Cotto had the SAME number of fights (26) campaigning as 140lb fighter than Ortiz has had right (~26)?

and Cotto's first fight as an official welterweight was against the undefeated Carlos Quintana for the WBA title right?

I know Vic is your boy and all but at least come with some facts please
Going back to boxrec you're right about Cotto...but the difference is that Ortiz is still young...he had an upset against a dangerous puncher in Maidana...I think that Berto can make 145, but then again you have to remember that Berto is really the one challenging Ortiz...Ortiz feels like he needs to test the weight out first so I can't knock a young guy for doing that...

Berto can't even sell tickets in florida even with having bow wow, chris brown, and soulja boy's support...Ortiz sold almost 9,000 seats when he faught Maidana in staples center and 8,000 seats when he faught that bum Alatore in the Nokia theatre?

****Cotto was 26 when he challenged Quintana for the WBA title
Victor Ortiz will be 24 next week
not a whole lot of difference my man

****in hindsight the Maidana fight no longer qualifies as an upset considering how well Maidana has fought since.

****he has weiged 145 before but he was allowed the 147lb limit, like champions should be allowed

****no simply no. If DiBella offered a fight to Golden Boy that is not Berto challenging Ortiz. If anything it's generally the guy moving up to fight the titleist that's the challenger

****and essentially are you saying that Ortiz simply isn't good enough to fight Berto? because it seems to me you're making excuses every step of the way for him.

he should fight Berto only if he comes in light

he should take a fight first at WW

then you go to use two examples and fail miserably

cmon man stop babying your boy

bro what are you talking about?

Ortiz NEVER fought at the Nokia Theater he fought Alatorre at CLUB Nokia. A small venue that holds about 1200 people and that didn't sell out

I'll be honest with you...I don't know if Ortiz can win this fight, because I'm a Berto fan to...I know how both fighters fight, and what I can point out is that Ortiz can pull the upset against Berto...Berto is gonna screw up against Ortiz if he tries to pressure him...The thing is that Ortiz has been training to fight against pressure since the Maidana loss...his game plan against Peterson was not a success, because Peterson was fighting smart and wasn't trying to pressure Ortiz, but he tried to put Ortiz at bay with jabs and long hooks...there are many times where Berto squares up and gets wreckless and I think that Ortiz will be able to find those gaps against Berto and knock him down when Berto squares up and gets wreckless...Ortiz can get knocked down if he doesn't keep the left side of his jaw tucked for a right hand...Berto lands right hands pretty fast so Ortiz' left hand has to be braught back into place after jabbing...Ortiz should fight on the inside at times and do body punching...There were times he punched Maidana on the inside and had Maidana rubbing his ribs...but Ortiz focuses on head shots...body shots will neutralize Berto's speed...the only way Berto can beat Ortiz is to be patient with the right hands and really keep jabbing...just boxing smart and not get wreckless but he won't do that he'll square up...

Ortiz can pull the upset I think he can take Berto's punches...Berto doesn't have a decent jab to keep him away and I think Ortiz is gonna work on the inside better than what Collazo did...I got Ortiz TKO round 7 if Ortiz fights with confidence...
