Wht is teh purpose in becoming a #1 contender or beltholder if you don't get to face the top guys?
Lemme get this straight: when Marg and Tall Paul were young and dangerous, guys were accused of ducking them. But now some guys are criticizing Sergio for fighting young, dangerous guys.

He's got a point, but you can't blame the fighters for it. Its the promoters who put the fight together. But on top of that, its not like their whole record is made up of guys who want to retire. Yes, Manny fought Oscar, who was on the verge of leaving and Shane, who also seems on the same path. But he did also face Cotto and Clottey, who are two very dangerous guys at 147lb. You can make an argument for Hatton too, but i don't think too many people were screaming retirement for him until he hit the canvas =/. Same with Cotto, in his last four he's fought Clottey, Pacquiao, Foreman, and now is fighting Mayorga...3 of the 4 are hardly looking to retire anytime soon.
Of course, that's not to discredit Sergio, he's an awesome fighter. And if he keeps doing what he's doing, there's no doubt in my mind he'll be right up there in the p4p rankings. Gotta give him props for looking for fights against top notch guys, but everyone's gotta face an easier guy at some point in time. That's just the sport unfortunately, especially in this day and age.Comment
