There's absolutely no other reason why that fight shouldn't have been at the JWW limt, and for 12 rounds. Plus Berto is only 5'6", which is pretty short for 147, and even 140. Plus who else is Berto supposed to fight? Mosley and Pac are fighting, Clottey's reserved, Cotto's taken, Bradley's taken, and a deal wasn't met with Collazo last time, who now competes at 154.

Ortiz is fast and probably hits harder than Berto does. He's also pretty skilled. Berto doesn't have the ability to outbox him like Peterson did (if anything, Ortiz has a better chance of outboxing him) and it will certainly be an interesting, and winnable fight for both guys. It will be a great opportunity to see if Berto can handle a guy with speed, power and movement. If Ortiz stays focused, comes with a good defensive plan and doesn't fold after taking Berto's accurate, hard shots then I could very well see him taking a decision. If not, then Berto by UD or late TKO.
Berto's 5'8.5, but Ortiz would be a half inch taller. Ortiz is outgrowing his division, and physically would be better suited to welter probably.

But yeah, who else is beto supposed to fight? If only there were a legit guy around 147 pounds calling out his name, who has fought legit opponents like margarito, sergio martinez, angulo, paul williams. God, if only there were someone with the first name of a muppet calling berto out BEGGING for a fight. If only there were a guy like that who HBO would be willing to put up the cash for!! If only!
By April, Cintron wouldn't had been a welterweight for about 2 and a half years. Should he lose at welter, people would just call him drained. And if he finds it hard to get fights nowadays, that's his own fault.

Its not a bad fight, but I'd like Berto to fight a Welterweight contender instead of 140lbers

You really feel this way? I think Ortiz has a great chance to not only beat Berto but probably stop him and propel himself way up the ladder. Look at Ortiz's competition, his recent opponents have been far better than who Berto has fought and being a southpaw he has the same/better straight left that Collazo troubled Berto with in their fight.

It's was Collazo's inside fighting that troubled Berto moreso than anything else. I don't see Ortiz bringing that to the table.

lol I'm not a huge fan of Berto but Berto is going to K.O him, Peterson had Ortiz hurt numerous times.

It might be a exciting fight but Berto needs to fight real welterweights.

I disagree. Victor Ortiz will call it quits before the Andre Berto has a chance to knock him out. It will be a pointless fight.
what the fck fight were you watching. ortiz was clearly robbed of a victory

as for the ortiz/berto fight, i think its a great matchup. i wouldnt be surprised if berto earned his first L

At least Bradley tested the WW but Ortiz hasn't even fougt a WW. His first fight and he is fighting a WW champ. He is just another 140 pounder comming up. There are other challenges but I doubt that Berto with his contract are going to risk it. He will be on idle fighting fighters that he has a good chance to beat and wait for the contract to expire or a big payday.

Kotelnik and Maidan were on the short list, What does that tell you?
