Am I the only one who likes the Berto-Ortiz matchup?

I mean its not like Berto would be fighting someone ridiculously smaller than him. Let's face it, Ortiz doesn't belong at 140 anymore. He's huge at that weight, can't fight for 12 rounds down there and he couldn't even fight at the limit against Peterson. There's absolutely no other reason why that fight shouldn't have been at the JWW limt, and for 12 rounds. Plus Berto is only 5'6", which is pretty short for 147, and even 140. Plus who else is Berto supposed to fight? Mosley and Pac are fighting, Clottey's reserved, Cotto's taken, Bradley's taken, and a deal wasn't met with Collazo last time, who now competes at 154.

Ortiz is fast and probably hits harder than Berto does. He's also pretty skilled. Berto doesn't have the ability to outbox him like Peterson did (if anything, Ortiz has a better chance of outboxing him) and it will certainly be an interesting, and winnable fight for both guys. It will be a great opportunity to see if Berto can handle a guy with speed, power and movement. If Ortiz stays focused, comes with a good defensive plan and doesn't fold after taking Berto's accurate, hard shots then I could very well see him taking a decision. If not, then Berto by UD or late TKO.

pffft, kind of a joke fight to be honest I'm surprised golden boy is willing to sacrifice Ortiz like that, but then again Victor "Dude, bro I'm like totally about to quit boxing for reals" Ortiz got a draw against Peterson who he was supposed to walk over and quit against Maidana so they probably know his time has come.

But yeah, who else is beto supposed to fight? If only there were a legit guy around 147 pounds calling out his name, who has fought legit opponents like margarito, sergio martinez, angulo, paul williams. God, if only there were someone with the first name of a muppet calling berto out BEGGING for a fight. If only there were a guy like that who HBO would be willing to put up the cash for!! If only!

They're probably thinking its either now or never for Ortiz. He's had enough time to improve and build back up so if he can't handle the top guys, then he's useless to GBP because eventually his stock will run out.

EDIT: Haha shame on me for forgetting about Cannonball Cintron. I suppose that's a good fight too. Both Cintron and Ortiz are skilled and good fighters, but they have the same exact problem. They fold mentally. Either one is fine to me.

Andre Berto is fighting another journeyman again. One who is coming off of a gift draw against Lamont Peterson. Peterson should be getting a title shot.

I disagree. Victor Ortiz will call it quits before the Andre Berto has a chance to knock him out. It will be a pointless fight.

                    it's ok

I think this fight is as big as it can get for Ortiz imo

Let's be honest his heart has been questioned and certainly that little grin he gave at the end of the Peterson fight (which indicated, well relief) did nothing but cause more scorn and hostility to his already shaken fan base.

If Ortiz loses he is at best going to be used as a stepping stone kind of fighter for the likes of Khan and others in the division. However a Victory for Berto well that raises his status for some and scorn for others either way this looks like a decent fight

                    Can Ortiz silence his critics?
Can Berto prove he is elite?

                    Stay tuned
