I was watching this today for the 2nd or 3rd time....

I actually felt so bad for Frazier, I dont know if its just a biased view, but everything showed in the documentary, I had seen before, like Ali calling him a gorilla, the abuse he got, being called an Uncle Tom etc

Ali literally turned people against this guy, and I do like Ali, and respect him and do see him as the best heavyweight of all time....But I think he was definitely intimidated by Fraziers presence. Thats why he said so much to try get under his skin. It actually made me think, damn if I was a boxing fan at the time, I probably would have been cheering for Frazier.

Seeing parts when Fraziers son said they had to have protection, the family recieved death threats etc....Its just so wrong, and to think, that situation was not getting help from Ali continuously bad mouthing Frazier.

I know trash talk happens in boxing (and Ali was the king of it) but damn, he took it so far....too far. I dont even think he realised how bad he was acting himself.

I actually wonder if Ali would have stood up if the fight had gone on, he looked so drained, even collapsing to the floor at the end, even his trainer said he was asking for his gloves to be cut off.... Saying that, I couldnt imagine him not getting back up, he had 2 much pride.

Anyway, I just thought how strange it is, all the bad mouthing that Ali did to frazier, and then seeing how it can change so many peoples views on a person....

Does anyone think its a bit similar, how as soon as the Mayweather family bad mouthed Pacquiao, Pacquiaos got constant **** from people, where as before all he had virtually were fans?

(This threads mainly about the Ali and Frazier part so dont go to off topic =P just thought it was a good contrast)

If I recall correctly, Ali would later apologize to Frazier and his family because he knew what his family had went through after the fight.

Frazier at least got over it a little, but too this day holds a grudge over the way Ali acted, and really it's hard to say he's wrong. Frazier is probably the one guy Ali went too far with the mental games with.

The thing is, Frazier was not affected by those games in any negative way, but rather in a positive way. Ali just awoke the fire in Frazier by acting how he did.

The Mayweather/Pacquiao isn't the same to me at all, because Frazier and Ali were really good friends, and the fighters involved couldn't be different. Also, nothing the Mayweathers have said compares to Ali's insults, which were unbelievably offensive and wrong.

he did but only to frazier's son and not to joe personally.

frazier would've wanted ali to come apologize to him personally so he could suckerpunch him...and then they could call it quits

After the fight, Ali asked for Fraziers cornerman, he told him tell frazier hes sorry for everything he said, also Ali spoke to Fraziers son....And said he was sorry for everything he put him and his family through and everything he said...

His son said in the documentary

"I told my dad and he said, why has he said sorry to you, why cant he say sorry to me? im the one he said it all to, why cant he say it to me"

And thats why still to this day, I think frazier just cant stand Ali's guts...Even when he carried the olympic torch, someone said to frazier wht do you think and he replied

"They show throw him into the fire"

Even his Voicemail on his phone still talks about Ali....Just shows how it truely effected him even till now....

The contrast I was trying to make is how it can change peoples views on someone, your right, what May said it nothing in comparison to what Ali said...

But you can still see how it has wound pac up so much, even freddy was saying hes never seen pac mock someone in the ring before, and talk about beating them etc
