The Floyd Mayweather Jnr-Manny Pacquiao saga is set to rumble on after promoter Bob Arum revealed that the Filipino intends to have six more fights before retiring in 2013.
Pacquiao appeared destined to bring down the curtain on his celebrated career when he was elected congressman for Sarangani province in his homeland, with trainer Freddie Roach commenting: "We are going to lose Manny Pacquiao to politics, for sure."
There were suggestions that Pacquiao's next bout - against Shane Mosley on May 7 - could be his last, but Aram insists that the 32-year-old will fight on, leaving the door open for a battle with Mayweather Jnr to determine the world's pound-for-pound king.
Although relations between the camps may have passed beyond the point of no return, Arum's revelation does a least offer a boost to boxing fans left disillusioned following the collapse of talks between David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko.
"He won't retire before 2013," Arum told Boxingscene. "He told me that on the day of his birthday in the Philippines. For 2011, 2012 and 2013, he plans to have six fights."
