Boxing's most underrated fighter: Omar Narvaez

He's fought the best at flyweight for many years and defended his title in several foreign countries. Now he's has moved up to 115 and won a world title in his second weight division.

    From fight news:

Unbeaten WBO super flyweight champion Omar Narvaez (32-0-2, 19 KOs) will now defend his crown against Mexican prospect Victor Zaleta (17-1, 9 KOs) on February 12 at Monte Hermoso, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Zaleta is the replacement for compatriot Jesus Ruiz who had to pull out after the flu derailed his training. Narvaez is making the first defense of the super flyweight title and competing in his 19th world title fight.

Good thread, mate. He is definitely one of the most under-appreciated fighters in boxing. Many hardcore are probably even unaware of his exploits - a World Champion in just his 12th Pro fight, he has managed to keep his undefeated record whilst raking up 16 defenses of his Flyweight title. Based mainly in Argentina, he has had the majority of his fights there.

Narvaez is a solid fighter but to say that he fought the best at 112 for many years....I can't agree with that.

Agreed. Narvaez's reign started in 2003. Let's make a list of the best fighters that passed through flyweight or who were there a long time. Let me know if he fought any of them:

          -Vic Darchinyan
          -Pong Wonjongkam
          -Lorenzo Parra
          -Nonito Donaire
          -Jorge Arce
          -Daisuke Naito
          -Koki Kameda

            What's up vato?

Tunney, you have second thoughts about your post saying I don't like Narvaez since "he's not American"?

The point was, you stated that he fought the best at flyweight for many years. I disagreed, as did Warp, and he comiled a list of the top fighters who campaigned at the weight during Narvaez's reign....they happened to be fighters that Narvaez never faced.

There's no need to make personal attacks over this.

                  These are Mayweather's best wins:
                  -Diego Corrales
                  -Jose Luis Castillo
                  -Shane Mosley
                  -Ricky Hatton
                  -Oscar De la Hoya

                  -Brahim Asloum
                  -Luis Lazarte
                  -Carlos Tamara
                  -Raynota Whitfield

Clearly the resume of gold. He might be a good fighter, but he certainly hasnt even tried to fight the best.
