I call BS on Haye again! He doesn't want Wlad to stay busy while he does nothing for another 6 months? If I where going up against the heavyweight champion of the world that's exactly what I'd want! Allow him to wear himself/overwork his body and come into the ring with me at a disadvantage. Haye's logic is bass ackwards here and it's clear he's just using this as an excuse not to fight Wladimir.
Now he's saying (as I predicted he would a year ago) that he doesn't need a Klitschko and can retire proud of his heavyweight accomplishments. This is biggest pile of crap I've heard from a boxer in quite some time. Haye's fought the following:
Monte Barrett: An over the hill journeyman (at best) with limited power and skill.
Nikolai Valuev: The former WBA champion who became champion only because of politics and his size. Valuev is not a good boxer by any means and if he weren't so tall and heavy he'd never have made it past club fighter status. Furthermore I and many others had Haye losing this fight on the scorecards. An abysmal performance.
John Ruiz: Another ex-champion who through politics was recycled as a top contender for years. Ruiz was a second rate fighter as far as talent goes and by the time Haye fought him he was way over the hill and far past his best.
Audley Harrison: This was one of the biggest jokes and farces of a fight I've seen in my 32+ of being a boxing fan. Enough said here.
Congratulations to Mr. Haye for taking on all comers, challenging himself, fighting the best the era and division have to offer, remaining active, and for bringing excitement back to Heavyweight division. I must also congratulate Mr. Haye for once again successfully using a Klitschko to bolster interest in his name and keeping the spotlight on a fighter that would otherwise be a nobody. I really hope he does retire in October of this year. Good riddance, boxing doesn't need guys like Haye.
