I get what you're saying but maybe HBO has something in mind for the winner maybe they will finally give the winner a big push. Because you do know Martinez is not a big star himself right? These are generally two unknowns fighting eachother and HBO finally wants to see who the better unknown is. I mean Martinez is obviously known among boxing fans but not general sports fans like Mayweather and Pacquiao are known.
Besides I think Dzinziruk[which I finally learned how to spell his name but still have no idea if i'm pronouncing it right] should get a shot at an elite fighter like Martinez to see where he stands.
They're pretty old in boxing years, they're in their mid 30's, neither of them are huge stars, and it's going to be very interesting to see them because they're southpaws and Dzinziruk is a good boxer and is not crazy about trading. I think this will be an interesting fight. Definitely the best choice for Martinez if you think about it everyone else is occupied and the one's who aren't occupied I just don't see them as good fights. This is the best fight that could be made for both Martinez and Dzinziruk. But it woulda been better to see Dzinziruk prove himself against a Martinez leftover first like Cintron or Williams. I would say Pavlik but his career is "up in the air".
i would have much rather seen Sergio fight for his old belt, but Dzinziruk himself is a great choice.... so i'm not really complainingComment

Martinez spoils the cable giant's plans that's why he is always getting ****ed over by them.
Fist he makes Williams look normal in the first fight, then he kills Pavlik's career, and then he makes Williams look like a bum.
Sergio made HBO have second thoughts about showing 2 guys that they had previously tried to push as stars. They need to punish Sergio so they just keep making him fight hard fights while clown as5 Berto gets to fight journeymen and gatekeepers bout after bout.Comment

its just funny how they choose Martinez as the guy who has to fight the high risk low reward fight when other guys are given passes constantly and havent fought the recent level of comp Martinez has. Im not complaining about the fight itself just pointing that out.Comment

When they do it they deserve scrutiny, when they push good fights we should be happy and not think "Well damn, I really wanted to see Sergio Martinez vs Andy :gay: Lee"...Comment

Is it just me or does the angulo situation drive anyone else nuts? How about martinez angulo. That would be fun.
Dzinzuruk is a better fighter than lee. If this goes down I would like to see 2 of the 3 fight each other. Pirog, Golovkin, Sturm. Winner fights martinez winner.Comment

I get your point i just dont understand the hardline from HBO for just Martinez and especially being that the opponent is completely unknown outside of the most hardcore boxing circles. I guess im not that excited about Dzinziruk because i havent seen much of him and the one time i did he didnt fight a top quality opponent. On top of all that he is a 154lb fighter and has never beaten a quality fighter at 160.Comment

A source with knowledge of the negotiations has advised BoxingScene.com that a deal is close to done for Sergio Martinez (46-2, 25KOs) to defend his WBC middleweight title against unbeaten WBO 154-pound champion Sergei Dzinziruk (37-0, 23KOs). The HBO televised fight will take place on March 12. BoxingScene was told that Martinez's promoter Lou DiBella, and promoters Gary Shaw and Artie Pelullo, who handle Dzinziruk, are in agreement on all of the major issues related to the fight. The finalization of the fight is probably going to happen once Martinez and HBO are able to reach an agreement on a few non-economic issues.

I always felt that even though Williams is a good fighter he was overhyped... and it always showed when Williams fought somebody more to his body size... if Martinez makes Dzinziruk looks ordinaire I'm really sold on himComment
