A source with knowledge of the negotiations has advised BoxingScene.com that a deal is close to done for Sergio Martinez (46-2, 25KOs) to defend his WBC middleweight title against unbeaten WBO 154-pound champion Sergei Dzinziruk (37-0, 23KOs). The HBO televised fight will take place on March 12. BoxingScene was told that Martinez's promoter Lou DiBella, and promoters Gary Shaw and Artie Pelullo, who handle Dzinziruk, are in agreement on all of the major issues related to the fight. The finalization of the fight is probably going to happen once Martinez and HBO are able to reach an agreement on a few non-economic issues.

Will the fight be at 160 since its for the mw title? Dzinziruk is a 154lb fighter why did HBO demand this fight when the guy isnt a mw and no one outside of the hardcore fans even knows who he is?

Dzinziruk is a great fighter. I think he will give Martinez some issues because of his speed and precision (The Razor) punches and I don't see Martinez KO'ing him early. This is gonna be a good fight, glad it's gonna happen.

Berto is allowed to fight bums and jrwws and Pac fights a 40 year old Mosley but Martinez who just got off fights with Williams twice and Pavlik is forced to fight a tough opponent who has no name.
