Klitschko is due to arrive in Los Angeles this week

Boxing: Negotiations for David Haye-Wladimir Klitschko 'progressing nicely'
    January 3, 2011 | 2:32 pm

The promoter of WBA heavyweight champion David Haye said Monday that talks to stage a title unification match against Wladimir Klitschko are "progressing nicely," a Happy New Year! from a division that has been mostly obscured from American consciousness since Lennox Lewis beat Mike Tyson in 2002.

"David wants the fight," promoter Richard Schaefer said. "We're working now on the date and the venue."

WBO and IBF champion Klitschko (55-3, 49 KOs) has sought the brash Brit Haye (25-1, 23 KOs) for more than a year, questioning his manhood as recently as last summer.

"We've certainly seen a lot more willingness from Haye than in the past in these talks," Klitschko adviser Tom Loeffler said. "There's never been a question both Wladimir and [his WBC heavyweight champion brother] Vitali have wanted Haye. Now, it seems he's finally willing to take the challenge."

Schaefer said "the largest soccer stadiums in Europe" are possible venues, and Loeffler said the German locales include stadiums in and near Dusseldorf and in Frankfurt.

Schaefer and Loeffler said the challenge is finding a date and venue that won't conflict with Europe's busy soccer schedule, and can be accommodated by England's pay-per-view carrier Sky Sports and Germany's most popular network, RTL.

A late-spring, early-summer date is most realistic at this hour, Schaefer said.

Klitschko is due to arrive in Los Angeles this week and could have more to say on the matter then, Loeffler said.

Looks like the date is the biggest problem but i dont mind waiting an extra few weeks to see the fight as long as it happens.

Wlad has already wasted too many months of his prime negotiating with Haye.

Wlad should go ahead and fight Chisora in February, then fight Haye in June, rather than going 9 months without fighting (September 2010 to June 2011).

its too risky for both of them to fight anyone else, too much money to lose.
u never know in boxing, especially in the hw divison.

Haye will want to delay as long as possible. He might go fight wlad, and if he does he thinks he has a shot if he can get to Wlad's chin. The longer the delay the less Vitali will be for him if he stays and fights and if its a tough figth with Wlad or something dumb like a TD when Haye jumps out of the ring or something, he can always say, "cant reschedule, i reached my mandatory retirement date." Having that retirement date set allows Haye full freedom to do whatever he wants after the fight and get love from the British fans.

The only good thing is that they got time till dec 11, after that Wlad is bound to give chisora a shot. So, either way Wlad will have an opponent by that time.

How can he fight in feb when he still hasn't recovered from his injury? Didn't they say 6 weeks to recover?

Heard this all before, Diva is wasting Wlad's time again just like she did in 2009, I would have thought Wlad learned something from that. Because of Diva Wlad fought only once that year, he could be repeating that same mistake. Fight Chisora in February as some other poster has said and sign the fight with Diva for early June, that way if she backs out, Wlad wouldn't be in a position of being a year without a fight.

That works out well, 6 weeks to recover, that's end of January. Then 8 weeks for camp, that's end of February, beginning of March. He doesn't need more than 8 weeks for Chisora.
