Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez: A $900 Margarito Loss Changed His Life

WBC middleweight champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez has had several experiences that helped shape his successful career. One of those experiences was a knockout loss to Antonio Margarito which took place on February 19, 2000 in Las Vegas. Martinez smiles while talking about his purse of "$900 dollars" for that loss. Martinez has come a very long way. He received a purse worth over a million dollars for the November two round knockout of Paul Williams.

Damn only $900... Do fighters get hotel and travel expenses paid? Otherwise he probably spent more on that than he got in his purse for that fight.

$900 ?! There should be a law against being paid so little to risk your life. Minimum to step in ring should be $10,000

wanna be the best p4p? step up and fight lucian bute then bernard hopkins... stop picking on the little guys...

all he sees is the halo of dollar signs on top of Pacquiao and Mayweather's heads.

Martinez made a million dollars knocking out Williams, Margarito made six times more losing to Pacquiao.

that's why he's picking on Pacquiao as his way to be the best p4p
