JMM did duck this fight when it was on the table, no question about it. But as far as fighting him now it's easier for me to defend him for taking a fight like this than it is Pacquiao fighting countless overmatched opponents. And I don't see why Cotto's fans keep defending him for fighting Foreman and Mayorga back to back.

JMM clearly mentioned in this story that if he doesn't get a shot at Pacquiao he's gonna try to win a fourth title at 140, and you know that regardless if it's Khan or the Bradley-Alexander winner he's gonna have a hard fight there. So people really need to get off JMM's back for fighting Morales in my view.

What's wrong with cotto fighting foreman? Guy was a defending champ after legitimately beating daniel santos. Foreman boxed ok in that fight. Plus cotto was coming off a beatdown by pac, a lot of people thought he was gonna lose.

      Mayorga's pretty shot though

Morales vs. Pacquiao was a tremendous fight. My respect for Morales! Marquez did excellent in fight 1. I think he would have won if he would have not gone down 3 times. JMM came back amazingly as always. JMM is one of my favorites but I think he did loose that fight 2. However I think it would have been a better fight than Mosley with Pacquiao. Pacquiao needs some good counter punchers like Morales and Marquez. Favorite boxers: Miguel Angel Cotto (#1); Juan Manuel Marquez (the best); Victor Ortiz; Marcos Rene Maidana; Alfredo “Perro” Angulo (the next chavez); Juan Urango; Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr; Manny Pacquiao (my respects); Julio Cesar Chavez, the Legend (the best) and Edwin Valero (RIP) (the best).

Want to see fight next: Andre Berto; Devon Alexander; Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez; Saul “Canelo” Alvarez; Brandon Rios; Mercito Gesta; Andriy Kotelnik; Paul Malignaggi; Amir Khan (knocked down); Juan Manuel Lopez (knocked down); Floyd Mayweather Jr (knocked down); and Vanes Martirosyan (knocked down).

Marquez is the most coward fighter in history of boxing.....Pricing himself out of a fight is nothing new with Marquez....the first one was when he turned down the 750k and instant legacy build up in facing Pacman to a measly 30k dollars in fighting Chris John in Indonesia which he lost(schooled by Chris) and now wants double what he earned from Floyd which he was completely dominated for 12 complete round...Mosley fared better by almost knocking out floyd twice and made him do the chicken dance and held him for dearlife....Marquez was never a threat and he even went down with a left hook...Floyd fight with Marquez was the most easiest fight for him on his entire pro and amateur career....As if no one is in front of Floyd that night...Marquez is a joke at higher weight and still Marquez demands a higher price....And now will face faded and shot Morales for less than a million at lower weight plus no legacy that comes with it...That's ducking from a very scared Marquez....

from Scott of Examiner.....below is portion of his column.....

The recent news that lightweight king Juan Manuel Marquez would be meeting former multiple weight champion Erik Morales was met with mixed reactions by boxing fans, particularly those keen to see Marquez square off once more with long time rival Manny Pacquiao.

Certainly the fight is one that many were hoping for several years ago, and to an extent still want to see.

If Marquez is really serious about ever fighting Pacquiao again though, which judging from the countless interviews in which he mentions the fight he is, then he still seems to be going about it the wrong way.

Instead of taking Bob Arum's advice and putting together a fight with WBC welterweight champ Andre Berto, Marquez has now instead chosen to take on the badly faded Erik Morales. Another case of a fight that should have been made five years ago and will probably be rather one sided today.

                from boxing fan
Marquez has completely abandoned the realization of his death wish by fighting an over the hill Morales. He could not afford to give in to the challenge laid down by Arum to fight Berto and prove himself worthy to fight Pacman. Marquez keeps on barking to fight Pacman while he is feasting on faded boxers in Katsidis, Diaz, Casamayor. Let him chase big fighters like what Pacman is doing & lets see far he goes be able to land that third fight. I doubt he can even last 2 rds against Clottey more so against Cotto and Margarito.

It seems that Marquez just doesn't want to have a third fight with Pacquiao, having priced himself out with his team's proposal, which doubles what he got from the Mayweather fight. When Marquez went to the Philippines to ask Pacquiao for a 3rd fight, he reportedly said he will be willing to get less than $1M to do so, but now it appears to be closer to $10M gross. It was the same thing when after their first encounter, Marquez turned down the high $750K offer by Arum for a rematch with Pacquiao and went into hiding for 4 years, during which he took a losing fight against Chris John for a mere $35K. Marquez wants to make sure that their 3rd meeting will be his last hurrah, win or lose, much like an insurance security....

When you think about it, Marquez has went on to make millions including a 2nd Pac fight, for a lot more than 750k. What you don't hear is that he would have had to sign to Top Stank. To think he would have gotten the push from Bob that he got from GBP is crazy. John/Marquez was a close hard to score fight, if John had any intention of getting in the ring with Juan a second time it could have and would have happened, just not in Indonesia. Erik and Juan will make 8-10 million between them for this, what does Bob have to pay for a third fight when Marquez is the a-side of 800k PPV.
