      The Greats

With boxing news circulating around Pacquiao and Mayweather for the last 3yrs, I sincerely encourage boxings fans to relish the last of a dying breed, Bernard Hopkins. Everyone has a top 10 list of current fighters and all time greats. Of everyone I have listed, I'm hard pressed to place more than 2 above Bernard Hopkins. His technical brilliance has kept him competitive, winning, and relevant in boxing for over years- even beyond the beloved Roy Jones Jr.

Thanks Bernard for being a class act and try student of the Sweet Science.

he gives Pavlik respect because their careers are intertwined. When Kelly does good, bernard looks good. Yes bernard takes credit for ruining kelly, but i think the alcohol is the real culprit, kelly is a pretty tough dude, so i think his confidence was challenged by bernard, but if you are controlled by a substance that is something that handicaps your soul. bernard is a man, very good speaker and kelly can relate to him (both boxers / similar struggles that boxers go through in life) - bernard will break kelly down mentally and build him back up as a tougher guy mentally and perhaps spiritually - i always thought jackass loew should have invited bernard to one of kelly's camps - look back when hopkins fought calzaghe / tarver / pavlik - the interviews that man was giving around those times was priceless. The old man is amazing in and out of the ring, and i hope pavlik has access to a computer and reads that the oldman wants to talk with him. God Bless

Pavlik was not "thorougly outboxed by Martinez".

After being outboxed early, Pavlik won the middle rounds, was credited with a knockdown and was arguably either ahead or tied by the end of the 8th round.

At that point a combination of the subsequent cuts, Martinez speed, and Pavlik's conditioning/weight making issues combined to give Martinez the last 4 rounds of the fight.

The fact that Pavlik checked himself out of rehab 2 weeks before the fight and was still able to make weight AND be even on the cards thru 8 rounds is shocking.

I don't think it's a matter of 'Hopkins wants Pavlik to do good because it makes him look good'. Hopkins showed Pavlik a lot of respect both before and after the fight, whereas with Calzaghe, Pascal, Tarver, and even Winky there were things he said/did in order to get under their skin. He's also spoken negatively of other boxers he's fought even after the fight, rather than trying to make his resume seem better than it is.

Maybe he just liked the guy from having met him before they fought or maybe he sees some of his younger self in Pavlik. Whatever it is, he's probably in a good position to give advice.

Much respect to Bernard. He's not as bad as some people make him out to be. Hopefully Pavlik can overcome his alcohol problem. I just hope he doesn't stay in the boxing game too, too long, because he's taken some serious punishment in a short amount of time. Hopefully he pulls through, and has one more great run!

right, it was the whole working class thing bhop liked about him. He talked about it a lot leading up to their fight.

Anyways, I was glad hopkins whooped kelly as a fan but saddened by the quick downward spiral pavlik's career has gown since. He had a lot of fans a ton of hype around him now that is all gone.

I think he could have beet martinez if he was 100% in the fight, to think he was in rehab just days prior before the fight is crazy. I think that's why he gained so much weight after the weigh in and was so easily cut/swollen.

best of luck to pavlik. I still think he needs a new trainer. "touch his nuts" and "double the jab" isn't going to cut it anymore.
