In some twisted egotistical way, Oscar would probably view that as "doing whatever Bob says", and would NEVER want it to appear that way, even if it makes logical sense. So more then likely, the mere fact that Bob Arum suggested it means it will never happen. Ooooh egos.... aren't they grand?
I would rather see Berto vs Cotto AT 147 or 154 or what ever they agree. Winner gets to fight Pac. As rumor has it that Arum is already looking to put Cotto in the ring with Pac next year at 154, regardless if Mayweather comes back, Berto looks like shyt (because that's what it will take), JMM takes the fight for free and would fight at 147 or even 154 (what ever Pac demands). Regardless of any other deserving fighter, Arum is looking to put Cotto in with Pac. I doubt Arum would have it anyway because it could potentially screw his plans for Pac Cotto II by having Berto Cotto. Then again, EVEN if Cotto where to lose Arum would STILL put Pac in with Cotto.

We dont need to see JMM at WW again. Pac can make 140. Pac wont get in the ring with a fighter like JMM, especially if its closer to his prime weight. Not at WW. We all know Pac can make JWW easily. He just doesn't want to. He wants fighters to come to him. JMM vs Khan, JMM vs Bradley/Alexander. WIn those and make some noise. In the meantime Floyd needs to come back and save this circus show that Arum is giving us.

    Mayweather vs Martinez AT 154
Mayweather vs Berto AT 147 (for WBC title?)
    Mayweather vs PWILL At 147-154

Anyway, Ill watch Pac fight Mosley, but it will be the HBO replay one week later. I'll read about how Mosley was just too old before I watch it. Arum is going to look like such a POS after this fight.... let alone Pac for hand selecting certain fighters at certain weight classes at certain weights.

Obviously, Smokescreen Bob didn't watch Mayweather-Mosley. Because Mayweather was actually the pne pressuring Mosley. Mosley didn't get tired from chasing Money. He got tired from repeatedly getting the hell knocked outta him.

And also to say the fight between Mosley and Pacquiao is going to be at welterweight is complete crap because it is going to be at some catchweight. If I ever see Arum in person I will punch him in his ****** face.
The fights at 147, that's not a catch weight

Mosley looked like **** against mayweather, but then again who doesn't? He sure looked pretty gassed out to me, I don't know if it was money's punches or shane's age but he defiantly looked rusty in there.

Nice slap in the face to golden boy though, that ol they should be shot line was classic. Bob might be a liar, but he's a funny ****ing liar.

I have about as much interest in seeing Pac/Cotto II as I do in Pac/Mosely. Of course I'll watch it, but I won't pay for it. It's sad that, in what appears to be the last few fights of Manny Pacquiaos career, that his Team is choosing less and less desirable fights as an end note, and that Manny is agreeing to "whatever my promoter Bob Arum decides".

As far as JMM goes, and it may sound far too simplistic and naive, but this is my thinking...

When JMM went up in weight to fight FMJ, I think one of the reasons he looked so bad is because he didn't condition properly to go up in weight. Given the time and correct conditioning, although he was never going to beat FMJ, he could have looked better by gaining muscle rather than fat. It APPEARED as if he ate just to put weight on, which made him look blown up and out of shape. Whether anyone here likes it or not, JMM has been talking about moving up in weight for some time now, (to get I believe his 4th title in 4th weight class). Now, I'm not saying that means he's planning to just jump up to the full WW class, but he can make gradual steps to condition for the higher weight classes without putting it all on at once (in a short amt. of time like he did against Floyd). And since, like it or not, catch-weights are becoming so popular these days, I would love to see how Marquez would do against Berto like I said whatever weight THEY chose to be comfortable. When it comes to Pac and JMM, again whether we like it or not, JMM had already agreed to come up to 147 to fight Pac. Pac would probably weigh even less then he did against Margarito at weigh in (144lbs), he needed to maintain speed but couldn't afford to get too small against the much bigger Margarito - so he chose 144 as a compromising weight for him in that fight. I think the reason why they (Team Pac) don't want to do the 140 weight is because it takes out the flexibility of what Pac feels comfortable at. He can still weigh what he wants without being forced to be under a certain weight.
[Side note: I don't want to argue the "why does it always have to be what makes PAC comfortable" point... that's a totally different discussion and everyone has differing opinions on that]. At any rate, (even though it makes the hard core fans mad over the weight class issue and who should come in at what weight) we can all argue until we're blue in the face, but the truth is, come fight night they can both basically come in at what's comfortable to them. Everyone gasped in shock when Pac weighed in at 144 at the weigh in against Margarito like no one could believe that he CHOSE to weigh less against a bigger man, but the fact is Pac did what was smart for him to do, unlike JMM did against Floyd who acted like he HAD to put all the weight on (not that it would have mada a difference, but who knows). My point is, and people can talk all the technical stuff they want to about weigh ins and fight night weight, but realistically Pac and JMM can both come in at what they're comfortable at and still be competitive. Like I said before, I believe Pac would come in even lighter then 144 at weigh in and JMM won't have to dehydrate and then rehydrate himself to make weight. He can get a good conditioning coach himself and do it the right way, and prove his own greatness on the way up in weight like he wants to do anyway. Again, it may sound simplistic and people can call me whatever names they want to, but I don't think it's so far fetched that they can call it a fight at 147 and both come in at reasonable weight in proximity to each other, and be just as effective, rather then if one has to come in at a weight that is a disadvantage/advantage for the other. One way or another, in order for this fight to be made, they're gonna have to meet somewhere in the middle.

People automatically assume JMM is ineffective at any other weight then 135 because he jumped up almost two weight classes higher then what he had been at - to fight the best in the world at his natural weight (or incredibly close to). He could have looked better, but he was never gonna win that fight anyway. We don't really know how good JMM could be at a higher weight then 135lbs because he's never tried to do it properly.

          And, that's just my opinion.

My thing is. It's the point behind it all. Why ask to fight JMM at WW when Pac weighed 144 for his JMW fight, let alone demanding a catchweight for his WW title vs Cotto?

The POINT is that he CAN make JWW for the weigh in and come in just as comfortable as ever. Hydrating a few pounds heavier in 24 hours is no big deal. He CAN do it. Its the fact he wants the fight to be at a HIGHER weight class than JMM is known to look good at. Its the fact that they want to have every advantage possible even when they already have one as JMM is not even a real JWW fighter but at least he looked good in his last outing there unlike when he "moved up" to WW.

JMM is too old to put all this weight on the right way which takes time and move up like Pac did. The fight needs to be at JWW and they both would be IMO, JMM being 137-139 and Pac being 144-146. Still a clear advantage. Its the point of making it a great match up as BOTH are small guys and can make the JWW division easily.

We can't get Pac in vs an ELITE WW or JMW. So how about an ELITE LW/JWW that in fact has a style that took him to hell twice now? "They" say Pac would destroy JMM. There right. But Pac imo beats Mosley and Berto so why not make it a fight that has history and would sell and look really good if agreed to at JWW where both can make weight easily?

It's what ever, I say it should be at JWW or not at all. JMM can fight Khan, Bradley and Alexander to make some noise. Berto's the WBC WW Champion, he should be fighting other elite WW or WW Champions like Pac (yet Pac again wont agree to do the same). Its CLEAR as day, team Pac avoids fights like this. Clottey, Margarito and now Mosley? How the hell do we actually expect Pac to fight Floyd Mayweather when Pac wont even get in the ring with an undefeated, prime(ish), young, hungry, WBC Champion in Berto let alone the LW Champion in JMM?

Yet people call Floyd scared? jezzzzzz, people have issues and ignore the truth. Bob's lied to so many people now its not even funny. It will even be more clear when Pac beats on Mosley all night. Yet Bob says it will be a "dangerous" fight. Just like Bob said the Clottey fight would be more exciting than Mayweather and Pac fighting. But yeah lets blame Floyd Mayweather as the reason for Pac looking like the coward who ducks every elite WW and JMW out there let alone JMM who's an elite LW/up and comer in JWW....

Bob has an agenda and its not putting Pac in with any threats. Including Floyd, Martinez, Berto or even JMM. They all priced themselves out of a fight or are "too great", too big, didn't pick up the phone or answer to a count down clock. Every excuse in the book is used. Next year be on the look out for Pac vs Cotto II at 154. Again Pac hand selecting certain fighters at certain weight classes at certain weights. Such a disappointment.

                1) Mosely does indeed beat Saul. Good Obervation.
So would Duddy and Julio Jr. This kid is being promoted like the second coming of Chavez Sr. but has not done a single thing to earn such accolades beside being a red headed attraction who could pass for Irish.
His mouth was open after 6 against Lovemore and his reflexes were ponderous and off balance. Just another Golden Boy promotion. Such is the racket of gloved fist fighting.

                2) When anyone begins to state that Arum has any valid point regarding the Manny/Mosely mismatch, that person requires a mental checkup.
Big Bob now states that ESPN and Showtime are interested in the fight.and that a 24/7 style program would accompany the contest. Fahgetaboutit!
As a screenwriter, I cannot find a single dramatic angle that would create more then a two minute promo.
The real story is about the selling out of the Pacquiao legacy with such junk when the Mexican market would scream for any Marquez quest.
Berto and Haiti would have provided a dramatic backdrop for any documentary/ promotional series and would also have captured a larger share of the black market.

I am boycotting the Mosely fight and I encourage all fans of the sport to sit this one out.
If we purchase every piece of garbage they try to cram down our fistic loving throats, the sport is doomed to be considered a bigger joke then it already is.

I'd rather make this post on one of the other threads. But Arum is basically admitting that Pacquiao doesn't have the skills (even if he substituded the word defense) and possibly resilience that Mayweather possesses.

As for Paul Williams? Well, to me he isn't interested in improving as a fighter. And I'll tell you why. He isn't interested in improving his defense. And the reason that's obvious is because Goosen is gonna match him up with guys that can't punch. So then there's no reason to worry about improving your defense? Makes sense to me.

But Arum on Wednesday defended the decision to go with Mosley over Marquez and Andre Berto. Interestingly, some of what he had to say made some sense when speaking about Mosley's past two fights - a wide-decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May and a yawner of a draw with Sergio Mora in September.

                    "One (was) after a long layoff, to Mayweather, and even though it turned out to be a one-sided fight he is the only fighter in all of Mayweather's career that ever had Mayweather in trouble," Arum said;

Mosley had not fought in nearly 16 months and hurt Mayweather badly in the second round. "Maybe he should have knocked him out, but he did have him in trouble. And that is a real positive because my guy, Pacquiao, is a strong fighter but he isn't a defensive
                    specialist like Mayweather is.

"I can sell Mosley because I know Mosley can perform. As far as his fight with (Sergio) Mora, anybody who is responsible for that fight should be shot. None of our matchmakers would have made that fight. Mora just stinks people out."

That was a direct shot at Golden Boy Promotions, who had promoted Mosley the past five years before Mosley became a free agent.

Arum said Mosley, who will turn 40 exactly four months after the scheduled fight with Pacquiao, won't have to look for Pacquiao. [Click Here To Read More]
