the guy in your sig threw a Catchweight at a "dangerous opponent" and lost via knockout.
Is Manny that good that we can assume he'd just win as usual?
Here's my point. Size doesn't matter against Manny Pacquiao. There's 1 person in the world who can beat him from 135-150lbs and that's Floyd Mayweather. The catchweights are just Bob and Freddie practicing their leverage and keeping his prized possession profitable for a couple more years.
Manny simply won't lose to anyone he's matched up with since the Cotto fight. Arum's about a great as businessman as there's ever been, and he's just doing his job.
Just try to look at it objectively. Delahoya was the smaller man in a catchweight fight (albeit fixed) against Hopkins....and lost.
Paul Williams, the smaller man, asked for a catchweight against Martinez....and got SMASHED.
So how is Manny/Roach/Arum asking for a catchweight an automatic win? I'd still favor Manny to beat Martinez via UD. Like I said....Floyd can beat him, no one else can.Comment

kill him not likely but give him a beating far worse than antonio yes indeed a possibility. but i want to believe the ref for the manny vs shane match will be smart and stop it when it needs to be stopped.

Hold on.....
As you pointed out, Sergio was a " dangerous opponent ".
Well, when did Manny last fight one of those ?
* Manny will not fight a skilled boxer
* Manny will not fight a skilled counter-puncher
* Manny will not fight anybody who is in their prime
* Manny will not fight anybody who is on top of their game
* Manny will not fight anybody who is coming off a win
* Manny will not fight anybody without a distinct advantage
* And at JMW, Manny will not fight anybody at all
e.g.
Margarito is none of the above, Martinez is all of the above.
There is more than a slight difference in those two examples
Cotto was faded, shop-worn, had just been beaten up by Margarito then Clottey, he was not on top of his game, he had no trainer, and he most definitely WAS NOT in his prime.
There is more than a slight difference in that example also.
So, the answer to your question is YES, we could assume that Manny was going to win, and everybody did. Margarito was a joke, and Cotto was vulnerable and disadvantaged even without the catchweight.
And there are only two reasons to demand a catch-weight, either you are not good enough to compete with that fighter at his natural weight, which is fine..... or you are attempting to drain him to gain an unfair advantage, which is a b1tch-move. Team Pacquiao tried to drain Cotto, because Manny had already fought at 147.
Rubbish. Manny will not fight ANY genuine JMW, and he demands that the 37yo midget Marquez come up to 147, which is higher than when they tried to drain Cotto for his WW title. And if size doesn't matter, then why the catch-weight for Cotto, or that welterweight BUM Margarito? Here's my point. Size doesn't matter against Manny Pacquiao. There's 1 person in the world who can beat him from 135-150lbs and that's Floyd Mayweather. Manny " pac-weight " Pacquiao is fast becoming a joke to most boxing fan's.
Don't believe me? Read here.....
And btw, Manny makes all of the decisions, not Bob Arum.....

Arum's " job " ..... was to manufacture a fighter who could make him money, and he has achieved that. Manny has a manufactured resume', there are question marks over EVERY SINGLE PACQUIAO FIGHT dating back to before Morales.
I told you earlier..... it is because Manny's opponents are not only disadvantaged on the scales, they are most/all of the following.....Just try to look at it objectively. Delahoya was the smaller man in a catchweight fight (albeit fixed) against Hopkins....and lost.
Paul Williams, the smaller man, asked for a catchweight against Martinez....and got SMASHED.

His career has been masterfully guided by Top Rank, which is why 4 of the top 5 P4P fighters in the world have recently slammed Manny's resume'.
Two of those fighters would beat Manny, one already has, and Shane is too old and faded to have much more than a punchers chance at this stage of his career.Last edited by LeadUppercut; 12-22-2010, 12:34 AM.Comment
