i guess we'll find out soon enough...i'm waiting for the bootleg dvd to surface...I think that Hopkins might be able to time Pascal as he rushes in and maybe time him with something as he backs away. I also think his going to "force" pascal to step outside of his comfort zone and take the lead. Calzaghe forced Hopkins to work, which is how he outpointed him. Hopkins wanted Taylor to burn himself out hoping to come on strong when Taylor faded, a bad strategy. Which ended up with him giving away the first 7-8 rounds in both fights.Comment

please man you are exaggerating the number of people who felt hopkins won either of those fights...most people i talk to felt taylor closely won the first, and clearly won the rematch...doesn't matter though, hopkins lost on the judges cards and thats what you have to go with...they don't have categories for "controversially lost"....lol
furthermore, he had no business losing to such a green fighter like taylor...
A likely story,no doubt.
If you were actually following the sport at the time, you would know that both decisions were disputed. They were disputed by many over the boxing forums across the web and many within the boxing media who disagreed with the judges verdict.
In regards to Hopkins having "no business losing to such a green fighter",he was a forty year old man, several years removed from his prime, who no longer had the inability to box over the course of each round at a decent pace with consistency.Comment

actually following the sport...lol...i have both matches on tape and trust me when i say, hopkins lost both...end of story....the only people who thought he won either fight was nasa000, secondzout, streetbully, and i guess now you...again, the judges thought he lost, so guess what...he LOST

yeah but some years later he miraculously finds a slow plodding white fighter to look good against and gets ballwashed again...
why is it that hopkins gets ballwashed every day on here for being so f'ing great, but when he loses there is always some greater factor involved...with jones he was green, with calzaghe he was old...with taylor he was in your words, was inable to box over the course of each round at a decent pace with consistency", yet won the fight...gtfoh...hopkins fans are the biggest excuse making/sorest losers on the planetLast edited by djtmal; 12-16-2010, 02:49 PM.Comment

you shoot holes in your argument when you agree, then try and dismiss with the " yeah but "
bottom line, hopkins was a bit green against jones, he made adjustments and never fought at that level again, he became lone reigning champ after that fight.
taylor and calzaghe he was robbed, both times up against media darlings and the establishment, you can not deny that, that hopkins was fighting more than his opponents in both those fights.
i'm starting to like the little rifs with ya djtmal (even though i pop in and out here and there like now ), i know where you stand about hopkins, and you have the same argument each time, all the while you dismiss factual realities pertaining to hopkins and his career, marginalizing the rest, we get it.
in real fight, worse for the wear, hopkins beat taylor twice and he beat calzaghe ( hopkins landed more on the scoring areas, calzaghe got credit for just throwing punches )....... anyway you slice it, i see red, you see blue, or vise versa........... but what we're going to see this weekend is a 3D fight and although i'm a hopkins fan and want him to win, i'm a pascal fan too and don't mind him winning, as long as it's a fair fight, and i'm talking about the ref and the judges.Last edited by deuce_drop; 12-16-2010, 04:50 PM.Comment

you dont know much about boxing if you think pascal mirrors j taylorwhy do these biased hopkins numbnuts always insist on saying hopkins two losses to jermain taylor were "controversial losses"....hopkins lost both fights plain and simple, and to taylor's credit he got a split decision the first go round, and bested that performance with a unanimous decision on hopkins....
to me this pascal/hopkins "fight" (if thats what you want to call it), mirrors the taylor fights more than anything else...and for all of hopkins overrated accomplishments against big name, divisions smaller fighters, his archillies heel has always been fighters his size who have talent...he always loses...i'm expecting pascal to show nard the exit door @ 175 so we can see who is the best between he, cloud, and dawson...
taylor at least had a jab, pascals jab is not a weapon
plus taylor was an active fighter
pascal fights in spurts, 39 punches per round
no mirror
nothing
go watch some fights with the sound off and take notes
learn the sport a bitComment

Riiiiiiiight, because the judges official scorecards are always correct and have never produced it's fair share of ridiculous scorings
I never argued that he won,******.You questioned why others deemed the results of the fights controversial, and I explained to you why.I view the two bouts as two close fights that could have been scored in either fighters direction.

The Pavlik fight is simply a testament to his greatness. That an old man can take a young,highly-regarded fighter,at the peak of his powers and systematically pick him apart for twelve rounds - despite being a clear underdog - makes it a special performance from a very special fighter.Nobody expected him to do that, and that's just what a great fighter does.Last edited by prinzemanspopa; 12-16-2010, 05:02 PM.Comment
