I love seeing really early fights of guys that would go on to be great fighters. Here is a vid of an 18 year old featherweight Roberto Duran fighting the HOF nominated great FW champ Ernesto Marcel. Marcel would go on very soon after this fight to win the FW title, beat Alexis Arguello, Sammy Serrano etc. Great fight between two great Panamanians.

This was Marcel's only TKO loss in his long, great career. He fought a bit like Mayweather. Quick, sneaky, defensively brilliant, throws a great lead right etc. It's why I always saw Mayweather beating Arguello pretty easy.

Actually, on the subject of Mayweather, here is a vid of him. Age 18 or 19 in his first pro fight against some dude.

What's really fascinating though is listening to people talk about them as they are then. Hearing Bernstein saying about "He is a pure power puncher. Can knock you out with either hand" and then later "His only problem is he leaves his head exposed and his defense is something they are going to have to work on". It's kind of everything we don't think about Mayweather now.
