I agree. Props to the writer for telling it how it is. It's a good article, and it should be a bit of an eye-opener for die-hard Manny-fans.

It is HIGHLY likely that Team Pacquiao will attempt to gain an unfair advantage on the scales. I am quite happy to provide a number of precedents - just ask - there are at least 4, including two in the last 3 weeks.

Sorry, words from the "calling out" game are NOT considered hard facts. It's mainly posturing because I don't see Berto pushing for a fight with Pac to the extent that Mosley & Marquez are campaigning. It's obvious that those guys REALLY want to fight Pacquiao!! Where has Berto campaign been the last couple weeks? If Berto sits and waits, then makes a big stink only AFTER Mosley or Marquez is picked, then it's obvious he was just posturing all along.

He's been calling him out since summer 2009.

Summer 2009 after he beat a blown up Urango??

If the calling-out game is sooo important, then why is Berto not speaking up NOW or the last couple weeks when it matters the most?? He's arguably the most competitive of the three, but he's the LEAST expressive of the three when it comes to getting his name out.

He and DiBella were both very vocal about it until word leaked out that Shane is not just the most likely choice, but that Top Rank basically turned it into a one-horse race.

His hit list after the Nov 27 farce was Shane, Cotto, Pac. Shane-Pac obviously kills that plan. That leaves Cotto - and Top Rank for whatever reason isn't rushing to make that fight, either.

The difference between the three is that Shane and Marquez will whine and whine and whine regardless of the facts. Berto isn't very vocal by nature and even though Lou is often volatile, he's also a realist. Why waste time and energy on something that isn't there. Arum knows Berto is available. Kid shouldn't have to live on his knees just to get the damn fight.

Shane fighting less than 147 is not likely and a re-hydration claws is not happening.

Exactly. I don't put much stock in the calling-out game as the other poster does or other die-hard fans. It's just chest-beating. Actually, you can argue that once they found out it was a "one horse race", Berto & DiBella could've spoken out EVEN more and say that Berto is the other undefeated welterweight that is available. The perfect opportunity to take a stand. But again, it's all just chest-beating.

The bottom line is I think Berto & Haymon looked at the numbers and thought not fighting Pacquiao is fine with them. Berto would make LESS than Margarito, JMM and Shane AND worst of all, he would be risking MORE THAN THEM! That could be the real reason why they're not whining and whining.
