Kudos to boxingscene for stepping up with the articles lately... I hope this becomes the norm. Great job Jake, in breaking down the rationale for a Mosley shot at Pacquiao and constructing one for Berto. I agree wholeheartedly that while Mosley may have it in him to pull off an upset, there is no reason why Berto should'nt be aggressively pursued by Top Rank. Its good matchmaking sense.
Is just when is Fitzsimmons, Marley, and Nathaniels where the articles is not good.Comment

Aside from that "argument" I too want Berto in the ring with Pacquiao. With that said, wtf was that? He deserves a chance, b/c he has tried in the past to make fights with Mosley/Cotto? He deserves a chance b/c Shane already got one? Sorry, I read the piece and agree with the idea, but how can we expect this to determine Manny's choice (or Arum's)? If your going to cover the topic, cover all angles please...imagine if I told you, 'if you take the left path, you will find bags with 15-20 million inside, if you take the right path, you may find 15-20 million or less.' What do you expect Manny to do, take a chance at this stage of his career....it's all about the paydays. So yes, I'd like to see Berto in the ring with Pac, but I'm not foolish enough to believe it is the better choice. (Sorry about the analogy btw, just tryna make a point, the money defines a prizefighter)
Still, Manny hasn't made his choice, maybe, just maybe, all these articles are slightly pre-mature, but I'm just sayin. Any pac hater ready to attack, let me just say I welcome your idiocy...2ndly, I can't stress enough how much I would prefer Berto over Mosley (Marquez over both) and I even believe Berto could be made into an interesting opponent with the correcting marketing, but b/c he's so unknown it's just too hard to predict this kinda thing. I even believe selling Mosley is tough, consider his last 2 performances (albeit against defensive fighters, yes I do take that into consideration) and those who remember his 2 or 3 performances prior to Margarito, it's not that easy to sell this dude either, which is why I think Marquez is the best option possible financially and from a fan's perspective.Comment

when Shane asked for this fight after he stopped Marg...he was turned down for whatever reasons....when Shane was the top dude in the division it would have made sense...but NOW?!?....it only proves what many were whispering....as my dude Kevin Hart would say...say it witcha chest!!....Top Rank is protecting Manny from a CERTAIN style....the sneaky thing is how they USE Floyd's name and situation as an EXCUSE to fight the fighters he's been fighting
....brilliant work by Top Rank....those dudes are the masters of manipulation.....wow....I will buy the fight because I'm a die hard Sugar Shane fan...NOTHING will change that....I'm on base until he retires...win or lose I stay on....thats my dude and I know he's too much of a warrior to NOT want this fight even though he's on the decline....he knows he aint the young Shane no more....so I respect him for ALWAYS wanting to fight the BEST.....shame on Top Rank for trying to catch Shane now....but hey, let the chips fall where they must....Shane by KO....shock faces will be the new trend next spring....free shock faces courtesy of Sugar Shane
You got it. Nothing will justify Pac "selecting" Mosley NOW (not when he was the #1 WW willing to fight from 141-147 just to accommodate little man Pac). I'm a big Mosley fan too but Ill watch it when it re airs. I haven't paid for a Pac fight since Cotto and before that was JMM II that I watched Pac LIVE. All this ducking and dodging certain styles is really disappointing as a fan of Pac's. The crazy part is HOW people deny that he hides behind Floyd Mayweather's name to avoid everyone else. Its crazy how the media and fans point at Mayweather when he clearly is not the only fighter out there. Yet Pac NOW wants Mosley? I bet Top Rank/Team Pac are doing what they did with Mosley to Mayweather. Avoiding him (not so publically this time) and waiting for him to not be "too good" or is it "too great"?
Its a fact Pac avoids. Its easy to assume he WAS avoiding Mosley who was "too good" AT THE TIME and NOW is avoiding Mayweather who in there eyes could be "too great" as Roach already said at one point Pac wasn't ready for a fighter like Mayweather. Avoidance? Bob Arum not caring about what the fans want? Its all about what will make him the most money even if that is avoiding Certain styles or certain fighters.
It's called Picking and choosing certain fighters at certain weight classes AT certain weights. NOBODY can argue this.....Last edited by WESS; 12-14-2010, 11:17 AM.Comment

You can sell a Berto fight, you can sell that it is a WW unification fight, you can sell 2 top 3 WWs fighting, you can sell a prime fighter, you can sell first African American fighter. You can sell Berto being undefeated coming off a 1 round KO. If you really want to do a promotion you can sell this fight.
I already know the Mosley angle, to see if Pac can be the first one to KO him. Kind of like the Mora angle if he could be the first Mexican to beat him. And, first African American that is all they going to use to sell it.
I think Pac-Mosley will be a bust, I don't think is going to more than Margarito, I don't think it will do more than Hatton. Pac is a big draw that it will still do around Clottey numbers a little bit more. But, overall it will be considered a bust. If they promoted Berto fight right i have no doubts that it could do around a mili buys.Comment

Elite named moneymakers are about whupped out by Pacman.
What needs to happen is Pac vs Marquez
on the same card Mosley vs Berto
The winners face each other.
Maybeweather might be out of jail by then and if he has any balls left he can face the winner which will be Pac.
By then the new boys on the block will have gained some recondition and clout, in the shuffle of who's who and who's the best to challenge Pac.Comment
