De La Hoya - Not coming off an impressive win, beat Forbes in a tune up, didn't look great, fought Floyd to a split decision which was quite close, but Floyd won. De La Hoya was seen as a mismatch for Manny, he went up 12 lbs to fight him, won easily.

Hatton - Was the lineal light welterweight champion, just beat Malignaggi with ease who was the #1 guy, beat Luzcano which was a tune up, lost to Floyd. Was in the P4P top 10.

Cotto - Fought Clottey to a SD who was the best guy available. Won against Jennings before that which was insignificant, fought Margarito in an out and out war before that and lost. Was in the P4P top 10.

Clottey - Fought Miguel Cotto and Zab Judah. Close fight with Cotto, not so close with Zab. Was in the top 5 Welterweights.

Margarito - Beat a journeyman, smashed to bits by Mosley, beat Cotto in a war.

Now while you might be correct that he never fought anyone coming off an impressive win, when people fight guys who are equal to them, it is going to be close. What you should look at is....Floyd struggled with DLH, Manny didn't. Cotto and Margarito and Clottey all went life or death with each other, while Manny didn't struggle at all. Are you gonna **** on Bradley or Alexander if they fight Khan next? Khan boxed well, but sc****d by Maidana and almost got KO'd....does that discredit him as an opponent? No it doesn't. You can't discredit opponents by saying they almost lost their last fight....fact is, fights are close when you don't duck and fight the guys you're supposed to. Oscar was a huge jump up in weight and the tallest, biggest man Manny fought. Hatton was clear lineal champion, bigger and just beat the crap out of his closest ranked contender. Cotto had already beaten Mosley, lost to Margarito in a war, beat Jennings (insignificant) and beat the next best fighter in the division in Clottey, Clottey had just fought Cotto, and Zab, Margarito is still most probably better than most welterweights and a good handful of the top 10 jnr middleweights.

Also, Manny wouldn't have to fight guys like Clottey and Margarito if Money May just manned up and fought him.

You look at Floyd's last fights...and it's so easy to put a negative spin on them, it's so easy.

Mosley - Hadn't fought in a year and a half. Beat a poorly prepared Margarito, went life or death with Mayorga and lost to Cotto.

Juan Manuel Marquez - Was far too small, just had 3 consecutive wars with Pacquiao, Casamayor and Diaz...struggled with them all.

Hatton - Just beat a shot Castillo, almost lost to Collazo, was looking poor at his two runs at welterweight.

It's easy to make fighters look like ****. Don't bother, just let them do their thing, appreciate their accomplishments and leave it at that. If a fighter is blatont cherry-picking or avoiding certain guys, then fair enough. But Pacquiao is fighting bigger guys who are either ranked in lbs for lbs ranking or had reputations for being tough SOB's.
No disrespect but I stopped reading after the bold. Especially the underlined. Can't believe people actually think that was a close fight. We all have opinions but that one I just can't see.

    • I'm starting to think people here have only started to watch Pacquiao fight when they saw him defeat DLH.

Close doesn't mean I think it was worthy of being a split decision. I think it was a clear win for Floyd, 116-112.....but it was no shut out...he could have won every round like Manny did.

It WAS a close fight. Why do you think it was a split decision? It could have gone either way. It should have been, at least, a draw. You're probably one of the dumbest boxing fans in here if you're saying Floyd dominated Hoya in that fight. George Foreman was totally disgusted with Floyd's performance in that fight. So were a lot of fans.

First time I actually noticed some people in the crowd leaving in the middle of the fight. They were bored to death over Floyd's performance in that fight.

          • This is a ****** thread. All Pacs opponents came off good wins.
            Hatton > Paul Mallignaggi,
            Cotto > Clottey

and the list could go on if i could be bothered to.

            • Basically what this ****** TS have been saying with his ****** threads is:

Pacquiao has been using A-side meth to beat bums.

              ***** logic = ****ed-up logic.

                • LOL @ at the idiots who call Floyd-Oscar a close fight. Oscar won 3 rounds, 3 and if you wanted to be generous and give Oscar every benefit of the doubt you could give him 4 rounds. That is it...And, that was Floyd on cruise control throughout the fight.

It was not a close fight, it was not a good fighter, to me it proved nothing, Oscar was done as far as I was concerned at the time. It was really a high profile event that felt like a sparring match.

No , it does not count at all . If I had the patience/time I would have posted some pics of Oscar's face after that fight against a blown up lightweight .
Oscar was done after the Mayweather fight , probably even before the Mayweather fight.
Oscar's win against Steve Forbes indicated he should have retired but he wanted to milk the cashcow just one more time so he chose an up and coming midget to add to his record as a farewell fight .

                    • an IMPRESSIVE win is a win by stoppage or straight up winning EVERY round or close to every round in my book....so under MY definition of IMPRESSIVE win I can't name none...tbh, I'm not that familiar with Manny's resume BEFORE he fought Barrera....so I can't call it.....Manny been beating up whoever's in front of him....HE is good for the sport....his team or the machine behind the scenes....those are the dudes who give neutrals and anti-Manny fans room to critic his legacy....IDK and don't care how Manny does his business with Top Rank....ppl say he has a word....some say he don't....I don't care....all I know is that he can rumble and I would like to see him fight a different style than the ones he's been fighting for the past 2 or 3 years.....thats all.....plus I wanna know why he fights Shane NOW and not THEN?!?....when Shane was the WW King....thats it.....I don't care about him taking some blood tests or singing karoke.....I do enjoy watching him rumble...like I said, the boy be handing out ass whoopings like Santa do gifts in December ....but there's a cloud of smoke over Manny....thats just being real....no other way to put it
