Khan did actually land a bit in R10, I think his speed and workrate difference just makes it look like he's doing hardly anything, just by comparison. But check out the stats.

It was however still, a 10-8 round for Maidana. No problems there at all.

That was a 10-8 round in my book.

Anyone who doesn't score the 10th round 10-8 is an incompetent judge.

The 12th was heading for a 10-8 score, because Khan was running like a scared rabbit without throwing any punches and holding for dear life most of the round, but then he landed some nice combos late. I think that late activity salvaged a 10-9 defeat for Khan.

slowpoke should fight Ortiz next IMO
This kind of thinking is just dumb and goes a long way towards damaging boxing. Anyone who supports the status quo of a knockdown automatically causing a 10-8 round is clueless. So many knockdowns are nothing flash knockdowns (i.e. Darchynian getting pushed down by a nothing jab last night) or are simply blatant referee mistakes where a clear slip is called a knockdown. Incompetent scoring is ruining the sport, and this unwritten "rule" is one of the major reasons.

And clearly you don't need to score a KD to win a 10-8 round. Maidana battered Khan from pillar to post for almost the entire round and almost stopped him. Khan was stalling big time by holding tight even while the referee was yelling for a clean break. That was as clear a 10-8 round as you can have. Meanwhile, clueless fans want to call a round 10-8 because a nothing jab lands on a guy whose feet were tangled up.

If the rules says 10-8 if a KD is involve then yes, Until you KD your opponent then 10-9 would still be the normal score.

its dumb to score a round 10-8 because a guy gets caught and hurt its the other fighter job to earn the 10-8 and capitalize on it and plus thats subjective and lot more people would complain about the scoring and cry robbery. I agree not every KD should be an automatic 10-8 round

I will say this tho about lastnight fight having a guy hurt that bad and one shot away from a KO and maidana was not able to connect many meaningful punches for 2 minutes is amazing to me

a point should be taken from Marcos for being so ****ing slow and should have been a 9-9 round

Here's a better question, would round 10 being scored 10-8 have made it so that Maidana won the fight?
