I assumed the judges did give it as a 10-8.
I don't think any of them would have had Maidana winning more than 3 rounds up until the 10th. It would either be Khan winning 7 and losing 2 or Khan winning 6 and losing 3 of the first 9 rounds.
When you work in the knockdown and the point deduction that's Khan up by either 7 points or by 5 points going into the 10th. A 10-8 to Maidana plus the 11th and 12th would still have Khan winning by 3 points or by 1 point depending on how many of the early rounds you gave him (which is exactly how the scorecards went - two had Khan 3 points up and one had Khan just 1 point up).
