His desire to be great is what's lacking. I actually like the way GBP is bringing him along but I feel he needs a few more fights to get his confidence fully back.

I hope he rematches Peterson and beat him convincingly then take on a guy like Soto-Karass.

I still feel he beats Maidana if he has the right state of mind, but with the lack of desire he is showing now, El Chino crushes him.

I still don't know how he didn't stop Peterson in round 3.

      He just decided not to.

      Crazy.

He's not an Audley Harrison character as he does have heart when he is tagged, but he just looks like he can see the light at the end of the tunnel regarding his boxing career. I don't think he is a natural fighter - he doesn't seem to enjoy it.

Maidana would always beat him. Just because he is insane and harder than a coffin nail.

Yea ortiz doesn`t look to have the drive to be the best which is weird saying this because he trains hard. He lacks the heart to be the best.

"vicious" is not the right ring name for victor after that performance last night, i think if he had the killer instinct he could have ended the fight by round five.
And after the miadaina fight he said that their is more to life than boxing, that is not future wold champion talk, could you imagine tyson, ali, gatti and heck even maidaina and khan saying that?

Peterson was rusty coming off 8 months of inactivity.

If they rematch Peterson by wide UD.

Lamont looked like it took him 4 or 5 rounds to warm up.

Which is common for fighters coming off a long layoff.

He needs to realize that he's not a pure slick boxer...he has the power to stop anyone at 140, but he thinks it's smart to injure your opponent and keep him alive...which is also what his corner told him...Ortiz could have finished this fight in round five there were occasions where Lamont fell on top of Ortiz and if Ortiz was not that close those could have been ruled as knock downs to be honest...but overall he needs someone to teach him new combos and motivate him...I don't think Ortiz will move out of Cali so he might as well hire someone that lives close to train...

He has some serious mental issues. Peterson was about to quit, but still Ortiz let him back in. It was almost like he was letting him back in purposely.........

Ortiz seems to be having a identity crisis.

He not sure if he should box or pressure.

Hes way to open for the right hand, straight or looping.

I think Peterson can win a rematch unless Ortiz can iron out his deficiencies.

Peterson looked rusty from his inactivity,

I remember his people didn't even want this fight at first because he needed a tune-up.

Peterson was effectively counter punching him, as soon as Ortiz would launch himself forward to punch, Peterson would take a step back and counter with his power shots.

Other than jabs, Peterson avoided leading at all costs.

Funny how Lamont would not throw the first punch to save his life, but you call Ortiz' movement "running around the ring like a girl". Peterson would not engage unless Ortiz initiated, threw more than 100 punches less than Ortiz (lower then Hopkins' average), yet Ortiz is the one with issues of determination, heart, etc.

It's true, most people will pretty much cede their opinion to those in authority (in this case, commentators and announcers). Think for yourself, boxing is more complicated than the depth they get into.
