I agree. You have to be a vigilant student of the sport to some extent if you want to succeed at boxing and Ortiz really isn't. All he's got is a straight left and power. He doesn't know how to go to the body or counter effectively. What's even worse is that when he starts getting timed, he can't even lead effectively either. So ultimately he can be taking out of a fight completely with little effort.
Peterson took this fight over completely with just a simple counter punch. After that Ortiz couldn't lead anymore and he could never counter to begin with. He has no ability to go to the body effectively or to the head without getting countered brutally. So Peterson just took the fight over with one well timed counter punch.
I like Victor but I don't think he has the state of mind to be a fighter. He'd getting eaten up by Bradley, Khan, and Maidana again.
I liked the fact that a boxer who was 10 pounds less than Ortiz was backing him up making him run. Peterson isn't even known for his power but his boxing skills, yet Ortiz was running and stunned by a boxer who was 10 pounds less than him.
Draw wasn't totally out of the question, but I though Vic won.
But he needs to assess his career in 2 ways, he needs to move up to 147, and he needs a new trainer. U could tell he was drained by the way he couldn't finish him when he had him hurt, and by the way he kept tumbling over when he would throw punches. U could also tell by the fact Lamont was pushing him back. No way that should have happened.
