Yesterdays athletes did not have access to today's training methods and nutrition, fact.
That does not mean that an old school boxer could not compete today.
who would his trainer be today? would he be on his old school methods with today's advances at his disposal?
What exactly are you trying to argue here?
if you were great then you would be great in any era. those who understood the science then would understand it in 2050.
Those who had heart then, would have the heart of a lion today and tommorrow. These things are not exclusive to our generation.
Ali was a mastermind, a pioneer.
boxer's today can take what he brought to boxing and apply it and yes, bring it to new levels, perfect it. but Ali was still the creator, and inventor of his styles. Boxing has come along way just as all the other sports as we evolve into faster and stronger human beings. But to say that a great boxer of yesterday could not compete with a modern boxer is foolish.
that's any great fighter from yesterday. Let alone legends like Ali. People like Ali and Jordan or Joe Montana only come around every few decades or more. They are not ordinary athletes they are something more.
A class aside if you will.

What modern training and nutrition has Hopkins taken?

You can't find 1 article where Hopkins says he does or takes something other than live a clean life and hard, constant training.

Even though, you wouldn't be able to find one quote or article of Hopkins or his trainers saying something different, you still speculate and base your opinion on his longevity due to "modern training and nutrition".

Muhammad Ali is athletically superior to every heavyweight in this era.

There hasn't been a heavyweight that could move with the agility & grace of Ali. He had faster reflexes than every heavyweight today and moves quicker, throws faster punches and combinations.

How can you honestly watch a prime Muhammad Ali fight and tell yourself that athletes today are soo much faster and superior.

You posted swimming records, to prove that athletes todays are now swimming faster, well then Muhammad Ali is considered the fastest heavyweight of all time and there hasn't been a heavyweight since to match his speed.

Your argument is soo profoundly idiotic.

Absolutely. There are very few "great" fighters fighting today. Fighters of yesteryear were better than the fighters of today.

I am very aware of Benitez winning a World title against Cervantez who was what 32 at the time? At 140...

                    So what is your point?
