They're low balling Marquez, for a fighter who went the distance twice with Manny, and arguably could've been the winner on either one( and FOTY both times!) , he deserves better.

Marquez got 1 million dollars fighting Katsidis and about 750,000 against Casamayor.

His PPV with Diaz and Katsidis were poorly 100k + PPV buys.

Asking for 5 million is the way of showing he is ducking Pacquiao.. If you fight Pacquiao and have a chance to be the king of the world you have to grab the oppurtunity whatever they offer you.
