    Based on what you're quoting,

    what is even your point?

Seeing as how they both won a title at 154, and never defended it,

      why downplay the comparison?

Why weren't you demanding that Floyd fight any of the middleweight beltholders when he won the 154 pound strap?

Whats right for one is right for the other is it not?

Or does it only matter for certain guys?

I'd love to see Pac defend his title at 154 and think it is a weak move if he doesn't. I've never been a fan of guys just going up to win a title and never defend it and I've said it before. Leonards lt. heavy strap is a joke as is Jones HW strap is a joke as is Mayweathers strap a joke as is Pacs a joke if he doesn't defend it.

But lets be real, you can't call out one guy on the matter and then totally disregard what the fighter you like did.

I can because I hold no bias either way when it comes to being fair and just.

Manny has no business fighting over 147.
Dude, he just fought Williams who is like 6'2" and Pavlik who is about that height and much bigger. Better question, how many fighters has Roach and Manny fought at a lighter weight than is comfortable for them?

Don't kid yourself. The match making for Pacquiao has been carefullly selected and planned to have the advantage.

Margarito - Had terrible trouble making the 147 pound limit for Mosley. Fought at 154 prior to Pac. Had to take weight loss pills just to make the 150 catchweight so Pac could win his next divisional paper title and his second title in a row where he didn't fight the #1 or true champion for the title.

Cotto - Had trouble in fights leading up to Pac in terms of making weight. Therefore Roach gets a little extra advantage by forcing Cotto to weigh in at 145. What's the point there? Aren't you the #1 fighter? What does 2 pounds mean? It meant a little added pressure for Cotto and a little leg up for Pac. Also note that Cotto promptly moved up to 154 after the fight.

DLH - Even against De La Hoya where Manny was the smaller man visibly, Roach knew he would need to kill himself to make 147. Even if Oscar thought he could do it effectively, Roach saw the advantage and jumped on the fight. Can't really blame him there.

Morales - After beating Pac the first time, Morales promptly moved up to 135, which had become the comfortable weight for Morales. Erik lost to Raheem and Roach knew Erik would be looking to cash in. So what happens? Roach and Co. don't go up to 135 for the fight, but force Morales to come down to 130 to make it happen, twice. After beating Pac the first time, Morales never fought at 130 again (except against Pac of course).

What you've seen is a great fighter in Pacquiao being strategically matched in advantageous positions to turn him into the wordwide star he is today.

        After moving up from 130:
David Diaz - worst champ at 135 at the time.
DLH - weight drained zombie washed up version, enough said. Even Forbes battered his face.
Hatton - Drastic weight loss needed to make fighting weight. Had lost recently to Mayweather (KOed).
Cotto - pummeled by Margarito (probably with cement) just a year or so before. Catchweight fight for 147 pound title.
Clottey - didn't even deserve the fight. Landed it simply because he was in Arum's stable. Lost to Cotto, who Pac had already just beaten.
Margarito - suffered embarassing defeat in and out of the ring against Mosley. Catchweight for 154 pound title.

Some flashy names here, but notice the circumstances for all of them. Even going back to his first win against Morales, Erik had just lost a lopsided decision to Zahir Raheem in his last fight.

Funny thing is, now we have heard that Pac may be facing Mosley soon. Wasn't it evident to anyone that Mosley has trouble making 147 now? And didn't Floyd Mayweather make him look like an old man?

Odd that they would take a fight with Mosley now, considering after Mosley beat Margarito they wanted nothing to do with him and tried to force him to come down to 143. Or is it?

I'm still waiting for Manny to actually fight someone that is on the upswing and not the downswing. Great fighter with a cautious and very strategic matchmaking team. I think I've said enough now.

Thread is freaking about Pac's team demanding Sergio at 147 and not about what Floyd is doing or should or what ever. If your that obsess about Floyd that's fine, just try not to cloud the thread's argument by your preoccupation on Floyd.

It's about the truth...It's clear of what Roach had advised, that the fight w/ Martinez is only possible at welterweight limit of 147 lbs., whats wrong w/ that & it's true...Roach said that the 2nd most attractive fight for Pacquiao other than Floyd is with Martinez if he could make 147lbs. since he can't then it won't happen...

So if people were thinking that they want to see Pacquiao vs Martinez, I also would like too...But since Manny can't go beyond 145lbs. true to his last fight w/ Margarito when he only weighs 144.5lbs even the catch weight was at 150lbs, while Martinez is already fighting at middleweight the question is who will give way for the sacrifice just to make the fight happen...Of course the cash cow who everybody wants a piece of him will make realistic conditions to interested parties, it's a take it or leave it proposition, plain & simple...

                  • as far as I'm concerned Manny Pacquaios last competetive fights with "live" opposition where at 130 lbs... and he got beat twice and drew once with Erik Morales and JJM. Maybe they were competitive because JJM never had to drain to make weight. Erik killed himself to make 130 and beat MP. Erik then moved to 135 but for MP (II & III) had to move back to 130, we all know what happened and saw those dramatic pictures of EMs weight loss. Funny how after the EM fight MP moves up to 135 and cherry picks David Diaz. MP then fights PBFs leftovers of Ricky Fatten. Then we all know the carcass DLH that showed up. Then make a welter weight champ Cotto come down to 145 (after being pummeled by AM). Then the Clottey fight, we all know he didn't show up to fight. Finally a drained and sad to say "has been" Margarito coming off beat down and layoff. Top Rank, Roach, and Pacquiao = great match making and catch weight Kings lol all a bunch of fabricated bulli**** and hype to sell to naive and ignorant casual boxing fans... all sad sad but unfortunately true

                    • After really looking at this what I really see is James Toney was the ginnie pig. He tried to move from middle-wt to heavy-wt by roiding up but was not likable so when he was caught roiding that was basically the end for him. When Roach and Top Prank saw this they came up with the scheme to juice Manny's ass up, told him to wear that dumbass smile and gave him the famous "I just want to do my job, he's bigger than me, stronger than me lines". Manny in all his career never broke an eye socket until he went up to jr-middle-wt. GTFOH!!!!!! Yea right. The world aint made up of ignorant ass *******s.

Nevertheless, Manny became the new project. They roided him up, matched him very well (last 6 opponents coming off huge losses) and put the Top Prank PR team to work overtime hyping Manny while taking his ass to the cleaners cause you better believe Top Prank and Roach are reaping huge benefits from all this. Manny is definitely getting shafted in all this. Their latest move is using other fighters names to promote their fighters cause it was never intended for Manny to fight Floyd or anyone not down with the cause. Bob Arum would keel over before he let PBF take away his major money maker.
