Comments Thread For: Koncz Explains Why Pacquiao Asked For Catch-Weights

WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has come under fire in the last few days. Most of the negative press was related to a potential third fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. The Mexican lightweight champion was requesting a catch-weight for a third meeting with Pacquiao. The Filipino fighter's team quickly rejected his request and advised Marquez that any potentional fight with Pacquiao would have to take place at the full welterweight limit of 147-pounds. The refusal didn't sit well with a number of people, because Pacquiao himself has used catch-weights in several of his biggest fights.

He's a legitimate Jr. WW that could probably make 135 if he really drained himself.

His ideal weight is around 144, which is why he has no problem fighting Welterweights.

I think he should clean out 140 if he doesn't fight Mayweather though.

What if Pacman losses in all those catchweight fight?

            Do they still criticize Pacman?

Why criticize the Catchweight when both Boxers and thier advisers have agreed?

Why did they let that idiot Koncz respond ?

That was a boxing question, it should have been answered by Roach.

              Koncz completely missed the point.

The question was, why did Pacquiao refuse a reasonable catch-weight request from the LW Marquez, when he himself has used catch-weights on several occasions?

The question was about boxing integrity, and Koncz answered "Manny makes the rules".

              WTF?

Complete and utter bull*&%$. Ya, lets ask for catch weights for all these bigger dudes, but all of sudden when it comes down to fighting Marquez (who is closer to Manny's size than the past 4 out of 5 opponents) he wants to bring Marquez up in weight? Manny is so full of sh*& it makes me sick. This is a blatant duck on his behalf and for anybody to say otherwise just does not get it.

Nope. Both Alez Ariza and Freddie Roach recently stated that Manny is a natural JWW, and can easily make 140. They actually stated that they simply cannot keep any weight on Manny when he is training, and that he has to eat 6 meals a day just to stay in the welterweight division.....
