My guess is the reason predates the sanctioned era... when back alley brawls on poorly constructed rings were a pice of shady business... then when the body arrived to take control of the game, it bacame a betting station and blood pays for the mafia and controlled vices. Helps when you do a read on the history... but that is just me....

All i say is the shady connections pertaining to loose betting and fixed matches have a big hand in giving the game a rough image to be even worthy of having a poster hung on a schoolboys Forbes level university dorm. Admit it.

Even with todays "clean" standards, most followers who follow the sport tends to break into the norm of "underhand" theories because of lapses in judges score or in matches falling out of favor to the clear loser who eventually wins.

Again thats just me and my opinion... but all other aspects of reason is already discussed here.... so that is my take...

Germany- Wladimir Klitschko packs Soccer Stadiums.

England- Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, and Amir Khan had no problem packing stadiums.

Canada- Lucian Bute, Jean Pascal, and David Lemieux can all pack houses.

Pacquiao vs. Margarito was two foreign fighters. Why cant American fighters draw big fan bases?
They do, they're just playing football or basketball when they do it...
All the boxing stars/talent are in other high paying sports.

In America, you have to pay U.S. Dollars and a hefty price at that.

In Mexico, they pay pesos. The cost of a nose-bleed sectioned seat America would be enough to buy a front row ticket in Mexico.

You've failed to mention boxers have to start from scratch even if by all means on a run down selling cheap tickets.unless u have a gift last name like julito's (who doesn't take an advantage of) then its gonna take a while to fill seats.truthfully it all comes down as to how well your promoted and consistency in wins.

American fans want to see men rendered fully unconscious by giant men
            they want fast paces
            damage

they are fair weather fans of fights and not boxing

it helps if the fighters are american as well

the perception is that boxing is everything but what americans are looking for (which it certainly can be)
coupled with the lack of a dominant american heavyweight
leads to a lack of ticket sales in the states

that being said boxing needs its biggest fight to happen
boxing fans have exhausted the talk of a pacquiao and mayweather fight
the rest of the world only cares about that one fight

the effect of that fight (especially if it's a good one) will reverberate

boxing is barely a Top 10 Sport in America, Mayweather is the only American Fighter people care about, most people in America probably couldn't even name you 5 American Boxers right no, it has nothing to do with "Race" or style in the ring or having Power and getting KO's or any of that, it is the serious lack of Charisma and the Ability to grab the attention of the Casual fans, Mayweather is able to do it and Oscar was one of the BEST at doing it

Boxing need more guys to get BOLD and not be afraid to say what is on their Mind like Ali did, like Tyson did, like Hopkins does and like Mayweather does, crazy comments and controversy does get the Casual Fans attention

Skills in the ring is not the problem, many of these younger American Fighters just don't have much Charisma, outside of the Boxing Communities on Youtube and on these Boxing Forums...NOBODY is talking about Boxing, Sports Radio Shows in America...NEVER talk about boxing...unless it is about Mayweather or Pacquiao

Not too many Americans follow boxing, it simply lacks popularity. I have two friends that watch boxing and they are in their mid forties and have been fans of the sport since their childhood. My other friends that are closer to my age (30 -40) do not watch or follow boxing, they prefer baseball, basketball, and football. I have one friend that follows the UFC and I think it is mainly due to him being a martial artist.

Boxing needs to do a big Event Once A Year for Network TV in which Top Promoters come together and match up some of their Top Fighters

The TV Revenue from Commercials Alone...WOULD BE HUGE! every Sport Have their 1 Big Annual Event like the Super Bowl or a All Star Game...BOXING don't have that which is why nobody gives a **** about Boxing in America, Events like that is what help Develop SUPERSTARS

I would love to see Dibella, Goossen, Shaw, Top Rank, Golden Boy Promotions get together once a year for a Mega Card...but it will never Happen...because of GREED!
