It makes you look smarter. If you look and sound like a dumbass, and no one can understand what the **** you're trying to say (i.e. speaking ebonics), then you aren't going to be taken seriously. Why do you think educated people speak properly? Because then their opinion will be heard, rather than having it be dismissed immediately.

When you speak improperly you sound like a dumbass. If you sound like a dumbass, people are going to think you're a dumbass. If people think you're a dumbass, no one is going to listen to what you have to say. It doesn't matter how "smart" you really are.
