I've never seen anyone claim that. What most people do say, which is just an objective fact, is that Khan only took the fight when he was forced to choose between doing so or being stripped of his title.

Khan avoided Maidana for as long as he possibly could without being stripped of his title, that's just a fact.

And Maidana did have serious issues with his manager, which is why he sacked him. His manager signed for that fight without his agreement, on financial terms that he couldn't agree to.

Khan's style is a million times more entertaining that Mora's. If you simply mean he'll fight on the outside most of the time, utilising his jab and speed, you could have said the same about Ali and many other entertaining boxers. The Mora example is silly. Mora fights nothing like Khan.

I hate fights where I'm a fan of both fighters. That is one of them.

That said, I like Mares to win. would've felt different prior to Perez-Mares, but Abner showed me he's for real in that fight and I don't see Vic offering much more (beyond fight altering power) to discourage him very much.

I also like Perez to repeat against Agbeko, this time more decisively.

For the HBO card, I like Khan over Maidana - would love to see him score a stoppage late, though my guess is a wide UD.

Torn on Ortiz-Peterson, though perhaps I'm a huge Peterson fan and never really cared for Ortiz or bought into the hype/hard sell from HBO. I guess on paper, LP doesn't give Vic much reason to back off, which means his only chance is to completely outbox him. Rooting for that to happen, but for some reason don't have a very good feeling about it.

I don't know. The way I see it is that he took the "I fight who they put in front of me" approach, and that Golden Boy wasn't very interested in the fight until they could squeeze a couple of paydays out of HBO.

And yes, while Maidana did have issues, there were a lot of other excuses offered for the fight being postponed, then canceled altogether. I forget the specific injury(-ies?) mentioned, but the fact is that Maidana and his people talked a lot of **** about being avoided, then when presented with a top fighter willing to face him, found a way out.

Not saying it's on Maidana, whose heart I don't question. Just saying they jerked around Bradley on that one, big time.

First, there were several reports in the British press in January that one of the reasons Khan left Warren when he did was that both team Khan and Roach were furious with Warren, because he had negotiated the Kotelnik fight on the basis that Khan would have to fight the Ortiz-Maidana winner; and because Warren was insistent on setting up a Khan-Maidana fight immediately after the Salita win. In fact Warren had just agreed contracts for that fight (although nothing had been signed) when Khan jumped ship.

Then, Roach went on record saying that if Khan was forced to fight Maidana immediately he would recommend him to vacate, and that it was a very dangerous and high risk fight.

Then there were the insider sources who spoke to both Rick Reeno and Dan Rafael (both trustworthy journalists), saying that Maidana had been told by GBP that he would not get any HBO dates unless he agreed to step aside and not enforce his mandatory. When asked after the Cayo fight why he hadn't enforced his mandatory, Maidana said that his manager had told him it was not in his interests to do so - which indirectly corroborates the story, because why else wouldn't it have been in his interests to enforce the mandatory, when the WBA had told Khan last December to fight Maidana within 120 days or be stripped?

Then Khan made it clear to GBP (according to Shaefer) that he wanted to fight Marquez in December this year, and not Maidana. Negotiations with Maidana only began when Marquez made it clear that he wasn't interested.

Then team Khan told the British press that Maidana had priced himself out of the fight and that they were considering alternatives such as Ortiz. This because Maidana was insisting on getting the purse share that he was legally entitled to under the WBA's rules, as an Interim Champion, whereas team Khan was offering him much less. They were clearly hoping to use the "pricing himself out" excuse to get out of fighting him yet.

Then Maidana appealed to the WBA, who ordered purse bids on the basis of a 55-45% split (which is what Maidana had been asking for all along), making it clear that Khan would be stripped if he didn't take the fight.

Then magically the "pricing himself out" excuse was immediately dropped and the fight was agreed two days later.

I'm sure Roach and team Khan wanted the fight to happen eventually, but I think the delay had far more to do with Roach not thinking Khan was quite ready for such a risky fight than it was to do with the reasons you give. And if Maidana hadn't appealed to the WBA and if Khan hadn't been threatened with being stripped as a result of that, the fight wouldn't be taking place this year.

Maidana's manager lied when Maidana refused to fight Bradley for a meagre purse. His manager claimed he had a back injury, without Maidana's agreement or prior knowledge. Maidana sacked his manager because of that.

It's true that Bradley was pissed about, but by Maidana's ex-Manager, not by Maidana.

Khan certainly has a lot to prove regarding his ability to beat a big puncher; and Maidana has a lot to prove regarding his ability to cut off the ring against a fast and skilled opponent. I think both fighters will surprise a lot of people, and will perform much better than many people expect them to - especially Maidana, who I think is being seriously under-estimated in some quarters. I still have Khan as the narrow favourite, but I think it will be by far his toughest fight since he teamed up with Roach, and that Maidana will hurt him a few times during the fight.
