Like you said, "If Montiel is able to get inside" and yes that's an "If". Donaire has shown in many fights including his famed encounter with Darchinyan that he can make people pay as they move in to him. Unlike most of the fighters Montiel has faced to date, Donaire has displayed in many fights punching ability while stepping back (just two examples are the Darchinyan KO and the 2nd KD in the Sidorenko fight).

Bottomline for me: It's a match that has a very high chance of proving itself equal to the expectations of fans, regardless of whose side the fan is on. I am not sure that it shall have degrees of elegance but I anticipate that it shall have lots of displays of power from both sides.

Edit: The Darchinyan KO, by the way, was a one-punch stoppage and Montiel stopped Castillo with a solitary punch to the body.

These, for me, make the match pretty e

Yeah but you cant campare montiel with darchinyan montiel doesnt just bull rush his opponents like vic does. He has decent skills to get in the inside and there is where he will have the best shot of winning with his bombs. And doniare ko of vic was bc he ran into the shot plus add in donaires speed and power he was out. Montiel has shown it numerous times but yes donaire has power but not as much as montiel. But either way somebody will be koed and it will be a great night of boxing.
My observation about Donaire's ability to make people who come in pay was addressed directly to you statement about Montiel getting inside and by no means intended to compare the styles of Montiel and Darchinyan. Darchinyan was mentioned (1) in relation to Donaire's above stated skill and (2) as clarification to your claim that Donaire does not have one-punch power.

The circumstance under which Donaire took out Vic was that he was coming in. And you're right about the impact of a fist ****ing against a head that is in forward motion. An example of that as well is not only Darchinyan's having been KO'd by Donaire but also Montiel's KO of Hasegawa. By no means was Hasegawa stepping back. He was landing his own punch when he got hit so his momentum was also forward. The results were mostly similar but different in one respect that I can think of: Darchinyan went to the floor before reeling to the ropes, Hasegawa went to the ropes and clung to one strand.

Note: Edit: I just noticed that this post appears like I'm talking to myself when I was responding to a post. I guess this is a signal for me to go.

Yeah but hasegawa was practly out on his feet. Plus montiel has shown time and time again that he has power like when he koed castillo so easy. But yeah danaire has great power but its do more to the fact that he is so acurate and fast. And darchynian just ran into the shot thats the way he fight like his nickaname a raging bull. But every one hating on montiel just like they where when he was going to fight hasegawa. But hopefully he breaks nonitos jaw and prove them all wrong again.

Both Darchinyan and Hasegawa were out in their different, respective fashion. As for Montiel's way of stopping Castillo, I do believe I was the first to bring that up in this discussion and thus I cannot possibly be considered biased against Montiel. I would not have followed a number of his fights--as is obvious in my posts-- were I not someone who admires his accomplishments and the manner he has gone about getting to where he is now. But that admiration has not barred me from appreciating the skills and talents of Nonito as well.

I'm just enthusiastic about their February date. And, thinking of that as well as the very recently announced Chris John-Yuriorkis Gamboa meeting bring a glow to my wizened face.

this fight is going to be a WAR

i'll go with nonito via KO, unless he hurt his left fist during the fight.

Looks like an easy target practice for Donaire.

gonzalez was stronger, taller and longer reach and in his prime and could not drop montiel were he dropped vasquez like 2 times.many people thought montiel won that fight too.i think people will be surprised how well montiel will do and how he will possibly win.i hope people give credit unlike after the hazegawa fight.i will give credit if notito wins.
