I really don't like Joe Cortez. He gets too involved and he is horrible for fighters that want to fight up close. If you never watched a boxing match before and you saw Cortez as the ref in a fight, you would think inside fighting is a crime. Anyways, I don't think Cortez will have as much of an impact on this fight because of the distance this fight will be fought at. My favorite ref has to be Steve Smoger.

Smoger did a terrible job just recently in Thailand. Thai fighter threw in like 29 low-blows (not kidding) and the guy wasnt ejected.

cortez wont let maidana get his inside work.. or any clinching like in the hatton vs mayweather fight he doesnt accept much holding... even more convinced khan will have the advantage when it comes to distance..khan ud

thats what came to mind,the hatton/mayweather fight,even though i knew mayweather would win,still,he didn't let hatton do his fight,i would have liked smoger for this one,he lets them fight,doesn't stop the flow of the fight at all,or stop a fight early if a fighter is kind of hurt,gives them a chance to win,hope cortez doesn't mess it up for maidana

thats weird,but doubt that would happen again,with cortez thats his way of doing a fight,he separates fighters too early,wont let them fight out of a clinch,just don't like him for this fight

Bayless is the best ref that I've seen in big fights. I can't stand Cortez. Have yall noticed him walk by and slap at the fighters' arms if they're clinching? I can't stand that. Either let them fight or break it up.

seriously, cortez is a "spotlight hog"
he should only ref 1 fight... cotto-margarito II rematch

then, he should be permanently retired.
