    Race

I dont want this to be a race smack thread, just genunine opinions please.

There always seems to be conflict between black and white fighters, there are slight difference to the two races but nothing that effects their ability to perform at the highest level.

The below is only true at the highest level, theres no major differences for the average person.

Naturally Black people are faster than White people, its pretty obvious that they can run faster, etc. Its not very often you will see a white 100 meter sprinter at the olympics or doing other speed related sports.

Naturally White people are stronger than Black people, its pretty obvious than they can lift bigger weights, etc. Its not very often you Black person compete at world strongest man or doing a strength sport like swimming.

Dont confuse power with strength in boxing, power is a combination of speed and strength so both races can punch just as hard as each other.

So my point is that its harder for a white person to have really fast hands like Mayweather & Judah, and it harder for a black person to have strength like Hatton and Tszyu. People are always hating on each other because of the way a fighters fight but its a natural, fighter are made to fight they way they do before they are even born. People should learn to respect how fighter of different races fight, Mayweather hasnt got the strength to out muscle a lot of fighters so he has to fight on the outside and use his natural speed ability, Hatton needs to use his natural strength advantages on the inside because he wont get far fighting people on the outside.

These are general rules are there are always exceptions to the rules(i.e. Lewis was a very strong fighter)

Both races are very skilled at what they do and both races should respect that more, these differences are part of the reason boxing is so intersting and such a great sport.

BTW, before anyone says "how come blacks have more top class heavys if whites are stronger?", in general when a white person puts on that much muscle they are too slow to be an effective boxer, its harder to get that big without losing the speed. Mariusz Pudzianowski(2003 world strongest man) was a boxer until he decided he's use his natural abilitys better.

I don't think race has all that much to do with it. Genetics for fast twitch muscles are found in all races, so you can't say "Naturally, Blacks are faster than Whites."

I believe it has more to do with, believe it or not, education and economy. In the late 1800's, most boxers were Irish in the US. In the turn of the century, it was Italians. Then as blacks were able to get more rights in this country, they began to make their presence known. Now it is the Hispanics.

Where are the white fighters? They are in offices working. Where are the Asian fighters? They have other jobs too. Sports in America has been a way out of poverty for many poor people. Go to a boxing gym, you'll find that there are more blue color workers in the boxing gym than those who work in offices. And the majority of those in gyms aren't white and probably have only a high school education.

I don't know how it is in the UK but I'm willing to bet that there are a lot of young men there who aren't from the upper middle class families.

There is undoubtedly a difference, in general , across the races as sports where a genetic advantage exists. For instance I've never seen a black cyclist in the Tour de France, not come across many black swimmers or strength athletes. Likewise the example from Evil, there aren't many white faces in the line up at the sprint events in athletics. To be honest though I think a the issue is too clouded with areas such as local environment, covering economics and opportunities of both the individual and the racial group, for a definitive answer to be stated. It definitely brings the old psychology debate of "nature or nurture" into focus. The only way to be sure would be to carry out controlled experiments from birth across a large range of subjects controlling all factors of existence. Impractical, unnecessary and I think it went out of fashion with Dr Mengele.

Social aspects effect the number of fighters from each race but not the ability of those fighters.

it not really a conflict really i just see it as nobody likes a black man thats sure of himself such as Floyd Mayweather Jr. or James Toney or Bernard Hopkins by nobody likes them i mean the white media look at how journalist paint these guys first they say sure he has skill but they overshadow it by talking about "oh he is to over confident or he has to much bravado" but can't just leave it as him having skills

same goes with football to basketball......when shockey started doing all the taunting and dancing they played it off as his love for the sport but when T.O or Keyshawn does it thats when it gets out of hand......

you guys really don't have to agree with me because i know you read it everyday in the articles about Mayweather jr and lots of others.......me i have no problem with white fighters if your good then your good but if your over hyped in my opinion i'm gonna say it

and you speak on what race is faster stronger and all that well read your history and see why that is.....whose genetics has been tampered with who was bred like animals to make the bigger stronger worker back and those days then you find all your answers.....just don't look on the surface

but hey if the sun don't shine then the sun don't shine

When you have so much more people from one group participating in sports, there is a better chance that some of them will be talented in sports. If you have less people from another group participating in sports, the result will be very few participants who are actually competitive.

                It's the law of averages.

Steve Prefontaine was one of the fastest people whoever lived and last time I checked he was white.

But what I think it come down to is the type of environment you grow up in. Poverty breeds boxing, that why when boxing started out we had a lot of Irish champs, which switched to ***ish, then Italian, then Black champs and now were seeing the boom of the Latino fighters. IN certain city eras a boxing gym is your only salvation from getting off the streets, it a way of surviving. But if your a kid from the suburbs you dont see a lot of boxing gyms in ur area.

You could compare this to the decline black baseball players in the MLB. When today they represent about 10% of MLB. You have to ask why? The reason is sandlots and baseball diamonds are being neglected or paved over for housing complexes. And it comes w/ the changing of times basketball is becoming the choice sport of inner city youths.

Another thing I would like to get off my chest about the race of fighters is the fact that I am a fan of Jerry Quarry, but when I mention this with people they laugh and call him a joke, a white hope etc. I think that is very disgracefull of what this man accomplished in his boxing carrer, I am not painting him to be alegendary A+++ fighter but the man was a top contender in the Heavyweight division during the toughest era of that division. Quarry beat Earnie Shavers (in 1 rd), Buster Mathis, and Floyd Patterson (5 yrs before Ali got credit for beating FP). And my point being if you brought up Shavers name or Mathis name, you they sem to get more respect than Quarry, and a truely dont understand why. the only answer is b/c of his race he portrayed as a white hope, I think that is totally unfair to this man and his ring legacy

The good thing about todays media is that you can see these people in on TV, internet or live talking **** about themselves.

i find it funny, some people find it annoying, but these guys definitely bring it on themselves, its nothing to do with race why people dont like them, its because they talk **** all the time.
