Boxing a sport which is only striking requires good levels of fitness and strength, if kids arent being fed the right foods and nutrients they arent going to excel in a sport which demands natural strengths such as power.

With MMA its not only striking but also grappling and submissions, something which takes longer to learn and perfect than throwing a punch, and the best MMA trainers will tell you power is not the key to their sport, its technique.

I cant say for sure that research is accurate but I do take into consideration the youth in Brazil are highly deprived.
Thailand is also a very poor country with similar economic conditions, but their national sport is Muay Thai, which is punches plus knees, kicks and elbows and takes a heavier toll on the body. As for boxing you have Latino countries excelling at boxing and those kids usually come from a poor background.

I guess it all comes down to having heroes to look up to, which the MMA world let alone the UFC in general is saturated with for Brazilians. Also I'm assuming most Brazilians get their start in Jiu Jitsu, which I can only imagine has countless gyms/dojos there, so due to a high volume it probably costs low.

Kids in Brazil first play football, Those who go into a combat sport choose MMA

Thats why Brazil have some of the best football players in the world. Like Neymar and Thiago

And some of the best MMA fighters like Jose Aldo and Anderson Silva

its because they've never had a good champion, nobody to look up to to emulate.

I guarantee if the Brazzo's had a dominant champion then tens of millions would watch him defend and more boxing gym's would be built all round Brazil.

Give it time, it will eventually happen.

Probably because they are too busy rolling around on the floor playing transsexual judo.
