There's usually a reason someone stops throwing it. Oscar stopped because he got tired of being countered and inneffective with the jab IMO.
OH! And Props on this thread......Sick of threads that are just meant for bashing or ****riding. Loving the real boxing talk.Comment

a couple years ago, this might have been rubbish...heck, his next fight it may be, but, against DLH, cotto and margarito, he effectively used an outside slip and a straight left or a right hook to counter jabs with power shots.
it allowed him to continuously turn de la hoya in the middle of the ring, throw off the timing of cotto's punching and apply more and more damage to margarito in the earlier rounds.Comment

Pacquiao has become really good at countering jabs with his right hand. Specially slow jabs like Margarito's and Oscar's jab on that particular fight. Mosley's jab is thrown really weird and lazy and Pacquiao will tag Shane if he throws those ugly ass jabs.a couple years ago, this might have been rubbish...heck, his next fight it may be, but, against DLH, cotto and margarito, he effectively used an outside slip and a straight left or a right hook to counter jabs with power shots.

i wasn't exactly talking about shane BUT if we can see how he's countering jabs, i find his straight left counter to be better than the right hook, btw, then a trainer/ fighter that is actually studying tape and attempting to take away his weapons should also see it.
he was countering cotto's jab as it came in and countering margarito's as soon as margarito took that step forward to put himself in the right hook's range. manny's right hook counter could also be timed and there is normally a delay between the hook and his next punch so the jab could be used to bait him into throwing it.
i said i prefer his straight left counter due to it having a longer range than the hook, it allows him to slip outside of an opponent's power and it allows him to keep his opponent "turning" and having to reset their feet to throw punches while he is still in range to start his own combination.Comment
