Who thinks Cotto has a chance to beat Martinez??

Ridiculous to suggest he doesn't win a round. Well, if he gets KO'd early, which is possible, that may be true.
Martinez doesn't possess the attributes that generally give Cotto problems. I would be more concerned with Cotto fighting Wiliams to be honest.
I think Martinez will win, no doubt. But Cotto will be competitive.
And I think a prime Cotto is a better fighter than Martinez. I love Sergio, but there are aspects of him that are so overrated. HE"S NOT THAT FAST. I don't see this blazing speed everyone else sees.
In this fight with Cotto, I actually think Martinez's right hook is gonna be Cottos downfall, not the left hand.I don't think it's that ridiculous at all.
First of all Martinez is too mobile for Cotto's flat footed style to keep up with him.
Couple that with the height, and reach advantage of Martinez.
Couple that with the speed and power advantage of Martinez.
Couple that with southpaw stance, good headmovement, and combinations..
I can't see Cotto keeping Martinez is one place long enough to land enough punches to win a round.
His blazing speed might be overrated, but he's much faster than Cotto.
savorduhflavor, P4P I think Cotto is a better fighter.
Agreed Reed.Comment

Cotto throws a jab, that WILL land.
I don't see Martinez as having good head movement, he's all feet. And he doesn't really unleash combinations that much, he's usually in and out with one or two punches.
I'm not confident in Cotto winning the fight at all. But I'm very confident he'd be competitive, unless he got wiped out early which is possible.Comment

Thinking about it, maybe I was too hasty, I wont dismiss Cottos chances completely, cause if he can cut the ring down the way he did against Foreman, who moves a lot, is pretty long himself, then I guess its conceivable he could pin Martinez down, although the jab will be the key, will he be able to land it as consistently as he was able to, to stabilize Foremans movement?
The biggest issue Cotto will have imo, is how he avoids getting hit when Martinez steps in and starts doubling the straight left hand, cause in the spots where he attacked, he disorganized Pavlik when he did this, Cotto will have to be ready to counter those attacks in this situation.Comment

plus you have to consider that Emmanuel Steward will have a game plan ready...it wont be Joe Santiago sitting there cheerleading and holding mittsComment

He must have, cause there is no way I can see Steward putting Cotto in the ring with him if he doesn't think he can win. Steward told Naz to stay clear of Marquez back in the day, and after one fight, pretty sure he doesn't want to burn his bridges with Cotto (with a loss) if its a fight he doesn't think Cotto can win.Comment

Margarito landed 37% of his punches on him. Pacquiao landed 49% of his power punches on him. Foreman landed 37% of his power punches on Cotto.
Martinez landed 41% of his power punches on Williams in the first fight, and Winky landed 28% of his power punches on Williams. In just the two rounds they fought, Martinez had a 31% in power punches landed, Williams had 38%.
Numbers don't lie, Cotto gets hit more.Comment
