The only reason most people on here consider Cotto an underdog in this fight is because Martinez blasted Williams out but watch the way it happened. Williams was completely out of position with his right hand down around his waist moving into a very unorthodox windmill overhand left that Martinez threw with everything he had. I do think Cotto is the underdog but I think the fight is a lot more competitive than most think and Cotto and Steward have the skils and strategic ability to win that fight, especially if Martinez is desperate enough to come down to 155.Comment

like ive said before, Cotto wins a MW belt and he is back in the saddle for another superfight against Mayweather or Pac, plus he picks up a 4th div and another belt. Somebody needs to put this into his little chubby buddies ear. Realistically 154 doesn't hold much for him concerning money or legacy.
But this issue is about managing the risk/reward.
e.g.
it would not have mattered if Margarito was paying 100:1 vs Manny, nobody was ever going to collect that bet.
If Cotto loses, then his career is pretty much over.
I suppose it all depends upon how long Cotto intends to fight, and what his other options are at this point in time.
I think that PaulF may be right, batten down the hatches for Cotto/Marg II.Comment

Las Vegas - BoxingScene spoke to Team Sergio Martinez after his Las Vegas press conference, which took place over the weekend at the MGM Grand. Martinez, who is now widely regarded as the number three pound-for-pound fighter in the world has previously said that he would like to face Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather, who are regarded as the two best fighters in the world.

Just ask MLB pitchers. Heal first. Then we will see.
If everything's right, make the fight at 154!!! Cotto will win at that weight!!
Cotto's too small for 160!
156? hmmm...Comment

I can't really argue with anything you said there.

Most folks are going by Williams I, and the Pavlik fight. The second P-Will fight just proved where Serg is at power-wise. Sergio predicted that, he said that he had made significant improvements to his power, and that he was gonna knock Williams TFO.
Martinez is a beast who is on top of his game, you could see that heading into the second Williams fight. A lot of people predicted a Martinez KO, I did, as did a number of others.
On the other hand, it is difficult to tell where Cotto is at right now. How much does he have left? How has he adapted to 154?
My personal feeling is that Steward could be a bit of an X-factor for Cotto, but again, that is difficult to gauge at this point. They have not been together for very long, so we only have the Foreman fight to go by. Unless anybody has some inside info on how that partnership is working out?
Also, Cotto is a welterweight, and Martinez is a big JMW.
Look you could be right, maybe Cotto would be right there in that fight.
I'd like to think so, I would love to see some good things happen for Miguel.
Maybe I am getting ****** in a little bit here, because I have always liked Cotto, but my boy Serg is in the zone right now.
Maybe this could be a good fight, what does everyone else think?Comment

I could see Cotto drawing a line in the sand if he had to.Comment
