In comparison, his opponents are never as tactical, technical, nor do they have the boxing ability or ring smarts to guide them to victory and are simply brawlers by nature.

If Marquez is so much greater at all of these things,

for someone who is practically pictured next to the term, "textbook boxer",

why does this cat get hit so often and knocked down so much?
because marquez comes to fight. also, he is fighting at a weight class above his best and just faced the biggest puncher at the weight.

Marquez is a great fighter. He trades more than he has to, but I think he feels that if he can trade and come out the better of the two, he'll do it. Watching the Katsidis fight, you can't take away from his defense either. He slipped, blocked and rolled with a ton of shots. He ate some solid punches, but he subtly turns a lot of punches in to partially blocked or glancing blows. He can sit on the ropes in front of fighters with incredibly high punch outputs and avoid any serious punishment. His defence is not like Mayweather's, where he comes out clean, but it's still a thing of beauty. And on top of that, he's a fantastic combination puncher. He can win with offense, he can win with counter punching, he's a great finisher, he has a good chin, he can get up off the canvas and recover quickly, he can adjust to his opponent mid-way through a fight, he's quick, he's technically sound, he's light on his feet ... What else could you want in a fighter?

Marquez dabbled in obscurity for a long time because of his counterpunching, denfensive style. He was a Mexican fighter who didn't really fight the way the Mexican people like their fighters to fight. He was being overshadowed by his fellow countrymen, Morales and Barrera.

So in order to obtain more attention and marketability, the Marquez camp made the decision that he would need to be more agressive offensively. You have to take a look at his punch output. Compare it to someone who is more of a defensive technician like Mayweather and you'll see that Marquez's output is significantly higher than Mayweather's. Marquez takes more chances in order to make himself more exciting and appealing. When you open up offensively, you're bound to get hit. Just the way it is.

Dude is a technician. He's a surgeon with his fists.
        Well put 2 5.

More a technician than a text book boxer. He adjustes in a fight and very few boxers but the top guys are able to do that. He counters even in extreme pressure and doesn't get dis-incouraged when knocked down. Great entertaining fight and he didn't fold under all that pressure

Except for fighting Mayweather and Casamayor in the last couple of years. He moved all the way up to fight Mayweather, when he was an extreme underdog. Marquez will fight anybody.

Everything in here makes perfect sense, not only the highlighted part. Marquez made drastic adjustments simply because his style doesn't draw large crowds. He was too cautious back then. It's not surprising why Barrera and Morales avoided him when they were in their prime.

                    LMAO.

Raheem had to be one of the worst contenders in recent memory.

That guy hugged more than John Ruiz..

How he fought close fights with Morales and Freitas, I will never know.

Thank god Ali Funeka put him out of his misery.
