I was under the impression that it meant ranking fighters regardless of weight class.

So why intimate Pacquiao is in some way obligated to fight Martinez because he's pound for pound number one? Apart from disliking the man personally, of course.

Indeed. Boxers are not obligated to fight people in different weight classes. If they want more respect, recognition etc, then they may choose to do so; but in no way should they be called out for not doing so. Pacquiao weighed in at 144.6 for his last fight. 144.6! And people are making out like he's ducking the middleweight champion. Now, the sensible amongst us know the people doing that are just bitter losers who want to see Pacquiao beaten. But still.

Martinez will probably make 1.5 million at most fighting Pacquiao. He could probably make 1 million per fight with bums just like Berto has been doing if he wanted to. It's definitely not about the money.

WTF?! Why would Martinez only make 1.5 million against Pacquiao? Margarito made much more than that and he is a C-class disgraced fighter and, at least to most boxing observers, had a 100% chance of losing. Many people, including myself, refused to pay for that fight, and it STILL sold over a million PPV's.

Martinez is a natural Light Middleweight. He fought most of his recent career at Light Middleweight. He only moved up to Middle to fill in for Pavlik and fight Williams the first time around, fight Pavlik after that, and defend it against Williams at catch weight 158.

I'm sure Martinez, although they say otherwise prob in order to pull a "Roach" catch weight, can prob still make 154.
