The question was, and I will take the pointedness out of it so that I'm not being rude as well, how you decide which fights are worth ordering on PPV?

For example, are you ordering Mercer vs. Briggs this Friday or do you need a much-hyped, Corrales-Castillo II, Jones-Tarver III, card to order?

What factors are involved? Do you care about only the main event? The undercards? If a belt is on the line? If it's HBO, Showtime, or Top Rank/DKP, etc.?

I usually order fights that I think are going to be exciting (doesn't matter if it's for a belt but if it's exciting) and to me, this doesn't excite me. For one thing, she's a girl and for another, the guy is a bum who hasn't beaten anyone with a winning record. Wolfe might knock him out (always a possibility) but the fight has absolutely NO VALUE to boxing.

For another, it's making Boxing look like ****...is this what boxing is coming too...a ****ing circus?

Boxing's been a circus for awhile if you haven't been watching...

Rigged decisions, sanctioning bodies manadating absurd requirements, belt politics, steroid scandals, boxers getting arrested, underserving mandatory challengers, fights marred with fighters quitting, corners getting booted, fouling ranging from repeated low blows to wrestling, kicking, and in one case, ear-biting, brawls in the ring, brawls in the stands, etc. etc. etc.

I haven't checked the date to know if there's another boxing show on that night or not. If there's no alternative, your only chance for an exciting boxing fight is on the Wolfe card. I imagine that she'll be the main event of a 4 fight show. You never know when an undercard's going to steal the show, either.

Chavez Sr. vs. Robinson wasn't special, but Jesus Chavez vs. Carlos Hernandez, on the undercard, was. My #2 fight of the year so far was overlooked until it happened - Arce vs. Hussein.

Especially when this fight probably won't exceed 30 bucks - unless someone doesn't have access to ordering the fight, friends that could chip in on money if their budget's tight, or have plans that night, I figure if you're a big enough boxing fan to accumulate hundreds of posts on an online message board dedicated to the sport, you can part with a few hours' pay to watch a 3+ hour boxing card.

I seem to be in the minority here, though, judging from previous posts and reaction to some cards on the board here following the fights.

              Neils-

I guess it is cool that you order nearly everything and in that respect you are a much more hardcore boxing fan than I am...I love boxing but for some cards I think that the promoters are counting on dedicated fans like you to cough up their cash for these cards that have almost zero appeal to most other people...I am on a limited budget and have to pick and choose the fights that I pay for...there are other ways of getting the fights of course and I did, for instance, watch the Tyson_McBride fight but I did not pay for it.

Boxing has been a circus for the last while but it should not be encouraged...Tyson kept fighting way past when he should have quit because there were people willing to pay for it...Anne Wolfe will probably fight men regularly if there is enough money in it. I would not deny either a living but I do not think it is in the best interests of either the sport or the individuals involved for these fights to occur. While I know I do not have the right to say whether Tyson should keep fighting or to stop Anne Wolfe from fighting men I do have the right to say that I think it is incredibly lousy for the sport and a rip-off of the fans.

At the same time to each his own. I personally only pay for fights when I am interested in at least one of the televised matches. I agree that Arce_Hussein was an amazing fight and that you can't always judge a fight by the headlining match but most of the lousy main events attract lousy undercards (Tyson-McBride?). So I save my money...if I read that something interesting occured I may find a way to see the match after the fact but so far I have not really missed anything.

This is getting too long and I really should be off to bed but I also wanted to point out that insulting someone just because that like to spend their cash on ****ty PPV cards is just plain silly . At the end of things maybe we should all congratulate you on being able to sit through some of these travesties. As I said earlier, way more hardcore than myself.

Some of the 50 dollar cards are ****tier than the lower production, 20 dollar ones, actually.

I've only been watching boxing regularly since 2003 - before that it was maybe if Tyson or Holyfield was on. I used to watch HBO fights now and then at a buddy's house and saw Forrest/Mosley II live in 2002.

I went through a phase where I watched wresling every Monday, then every Monday & Thursday, and bought many of the PPVs, too. Maybe at some point, I'll tire of boxing. Right now, I just don't want to miss something...lol

I happen to be involved with this bout, and will be doing the Ring Announcing for the entire event on OCT. 15th, which will be a mere $29.95
on PPV, and yes this is historical in that for the first time in the history of the sport, a SANCTIONED BOUT between a man and a woman is going to happen. This bout will be one of the most hottly debated fights in a very long time with pros & cons on both sides. In fact there is already talk of it being a bit racial since he is white and she is black, and to take it even further, he is a good old boy from the country in Mississippi at that! He will be in his confederate flag trunks and might even be led into the ring by none other than Hank Williams Jr.!!

Make no mistake though, the guy can punch and has knocked out 7 men, so don't think he is a bum, because the man can scrap, and so can Wolfe, so this will be a slugfest, with an amazing uncard as well, so don't think it's a only publicity stunt, this is going to be fun, besides - ALL pro fights are publicity stunts, that is why they are called PROMOTIONS!
