Roy Jones Junior, what's the point in fighting Tarver now?

Boxing season is a bit dry at the mo... Just wanted to see how many people on boxingscene either agree or disagree with this statement below.

Roy Jones Junior - The guy who never wanted to fight until it was way too late.

Well for one it's common knowledge how he's spent his whole career ducking other fighters... But do you remember this?

Roy Jones Junior received a little bit of a gift decsion in the RJJ vs Tarver 1 fight... No worries that **** happens in boxing, (I wish it didn't but it does).

But after that fight he went to the WBC and tried to have Tarver removed as the mandatory because he deemed Tarver "Not a worthy challenger!?!"... LOL!...

As expected, the WBC threw it back in his face and basically said to him, "Not this time Roy, You ain't taking us down with you".

Roy wanted to go back to fighting nobodies but for the 1st time in his career he was actually having to pefrom the role of a champion and fight who they tell you to fight.

As we know... He got sparked out in the 2nd round.

So why has Roy Jones decided to fight Tarver now? It really does baffle me... It's way too little way too late if he's atempting build himself some kind of broken legacy?

With all due respect, Tarver seems like a relly nice guy but he's not exactly a great fighter.

Does anyone know what Roy Jones Junior's sneaky little angle is this time? - What's he up too?

I don't think there's any angle to it.

Boxing is a business, RJJ isn't retired, AT and him have a past filled with drama = publicity = $$$.

Plus, AT knocked his ass out cold, if I were RJJ, I'd jump at the chance to avenge that kind of loss.

Not sure where you're going with this question.

To me it is very simple .

As a man i think Roy Jones Jr . Wants to put on a show for the people like he did for so many years . I mean Tarver was really the only guy who talked sh** to Roy and backed it up. Glen Johnson didnt really talk to much when he knocked out Roy but Tarver was talking 24/ 7 and then came in and delivered the knockout . I think roy wants to get some revenge and not end his Hall of fame career on a losing note .

P.S. Isnt it funny how nobody talks about Glen Johnson anymore? I mean people were talkin like this guy was invincible . He loses to AT and nobody even talks about him on the Forum anymore .

Glen was lucky his 9-loss self got Roy when he did. He shouldn't have won the first fight with Tarver; he was dominated in the rematch.

People will probably talk a little about him after his Best Damn Sports Show bout next month. Then, when Tarver fights him a third time, they will again.

But all this "Glen Johnson p4p list" stuff was generous at best...

martin- you obviously just don't like RJJ and made this post to make sure everyone knew that. RJJ is one of the greatest boxers of all time. Ask any big time trainer out there and they will tell you the same thing. Roy wants this fight because he sees it as his worst loss of the 2 he has.

All the greats struggled in the end...especially the ones like roy that relied on their quickness to win fights..that does not change how great they were.

first off Tarver is and excellent fighter and the only thing Roy can do is fight Tarver because if he did not he will look like he has his whole career as you said like he is ducking the best guy out there in his division.before there was really no one to duck in my opinion so he fought lackluster fights but once Tarver came along and presented him a challenge it bacame more interesting and even more so after Tarver KOed him so the only fight that would ever make sense is Tarver and Johnson if he gets by Tarver this time which I seriously doubt.

you have to realize that roy jones jr. never had a promoter he was his own promoter he had no one too look after him and he doesn't trust alot of people not even his own father.
He played the fight game very cautiously, his talent and his skills were unmatched, who did he duck, he beat hopkins to win the middleweight crown then he took on james toney and beat him convincingly. weren't these guys suppose to be the best in the game and they were beaten convincingly by Roy jones jr.
There is no angly to roy creating some kind of sneaky angle, the only thing he wants is his legacy restored he is one of the greatest boxers ever, to solidify his greatness he has to beat Antonio Tarver and Glencoff Johnson too, and a fighter of his callibre will do just that, he wont walk away untill he disposes these two guyz.

It makes perfect sense for Roy to fight Tarver, and no, the first fight was no gift, just another part of your skewed perspective.

In boxing, you try to beat the guys that have beaten you. Tarver beat Roy, and now Roy wants to beat Tarver. Pretty simple realy...

Well Jones victory over Bernard Hopkins only became a big deal about a decade later... At the time Bernard was an unknown club fighter who wasn't even ranked in the top 5 @160lbs. James Toney wasn't ranked No.1 at 168lbs when Jones fought him either... Roy Jones snapped up the IBF 168lbs belt and defended it against fighters that weren't even ranked in the top 10 in the World...

Roy Jones career does crack me up... LOL!... I actually find the whole thing really funny...

Super_lightweight, I think you maybe becoming my official Boxingscene stalker... LOL!... Look at that picture of Tarver in your signature. You telling me that looks like a guy that just lost a fight fair and square?... LOL!... - It's so funny, It's almost like you're proud of the dodgey decsion.
