There's been a lot of debate lately. Whoever has the second most votes would be #2 with last place earning the #3 spot. Make your voice heard, vote!! Poll to follow, please discuss!
hard to argue in favor of a guy whose only win in a year is mosley over the other two, who just totally outshine him this past year
sergio on the other hand popped up way too quickly to have my total confidence going into anyfight, technically suffered a recent loss (even though I thought he won) and while he has the years best wins (pavlik and williams)...
pacquaio has proven to have both the longevity/consistency and activity to be p4p #1. 1-sided dominance several fights in a row is the cherry on top.
after pacquaio i have a whole buch of guys pretty much tied for #2 spanning the lighter weights all the way to heavy
I went for Sexay because he has more credible wins this year:
Pavlik and Williams >>>> Clottey and Margarito.
But wouldn't you say Pac/May's respective bodies of work have are more extensive than Sexy Sergio's? By this rationale, would it then make sense that if Gamboa beat say JML and Caballero he'd instantly be #1 P4P? Despite a fairly limited prior history? Just playing devil's advocate, I think Maravilla is the man.
sergios been fighting the best comp..no catchweight demands and no ost demands
Maybe a top 10 yearly P4P list should be kept up by Ring Magazine. One that had greater fluctuations from month to month as a result of recent fights.. Because I think it's true, fighters who are active and engaging in risk should be better recognized, and hardcore fans need a more regularly updated list of top 10 fighters.
there is absolutely no argument for martinez. sure he's had a great year but that's it. It's like saying when Glen Johnson won fighter of the year beating Tarver and Roy jones he deserved to be #1 pound 4 pound over Hopkins and Floyd because he had an overall better year. Sorry, doesn't work that way.
