It's because it's a story about his whole life since his brother/trainer ****ey was a crackhead, plus all other kinds of drama. It's not focused on his boxing career.

Micky Ward got a movie based on his life because Mark Wahlberg read the script based on his biography and he wanted it to be made into a movie. The script was on the Hollywood Blacklist (a list of great, unfilmed scripts). From what I've heard from critics, it's a great film and has a great chance of a possible nomination for Best Picture next February.
