Sergio stopped fighting as a welterweight more than 8 years ago; unable to make weight anymore. Margarito fought at a quarter less than 146 lbs. as recently as the Mosley fight; he was a Welterweight from 2005 (after the 2nd Daniel Santos meeting) up to the time of his suspension. Margarito may be taller by an inch and, like Sergio, started his career around Jr. Middleweight but his best days were at Welterweight. Sergio, on the other hand, only had 4 stoppage wins in about 19 appearances weighing 145 to 149 lbs., a performance that contributed much to his rather mediocre career KO numbers which stands at 50% (25 in 50 fights). It seems that Jr. Middleweight to Middleweight embrace Martinez's comfort zone; less so Margarito's.
Note: Martinez-PWilliams II was at the CATCHWEIGHT ceiling of 158 lbs. Martinez came in at 157 and a quarter, Williams 156. Not much has been said about this so I thought I'd just put this here.

let's not jump too much on that one knock out. I would like to see more of Sergio, but It's not like P. Williams is hard to find with those punches; and K. Pavlik is no mover either and already got schooled by a very old Hopkins.
While I agree that Martinez could possibly be the next p4p ruler, he needs to get on more challenge AT HIS OWN weight, or more impressively higher than his weight if he has the balls. We can name a lot of challenge for him, the real tests.

It would legitimize his WBC Super Welterweight title!!!!

Well, yeah, he got hurt, so he is getting out of that weight class. Can you blame him?
If Manny were to lose their would be no shame in defeat to Sergio and I honestly beleive that he could be competitive with anyone at 154lbs because speed kills and he has the corner to put the victory road map together. PEOPLE WAKE UP!!! MANNY SPARS WITH MIDDLEWEIGHTS ON A REGULAR BASIS!!!
This fight would really get Manny's fire burning IMHO. Margarito was SHOT and the insiders at Top Rank KNEW IT; this is the only reason that fight was approved IMHO. Why hold your head on a bulll**** claim of winning an 8th world title? Margarito had no business in a title fight and the historians will make note of it. Manny stick and move his way to a decision over Martinez and then he woud have a true and legitimate claim to being the 154lb champ.
At the ******** windows, Manny would be better than a slight betting favorite and there would be tremendous betting action. Hold the thing at the Staples Center if you want and make it happen in 2011Last edited by Young Herschel; 11-22-2010, 08:41 PM.
